Abstract:
Alice Walker is one of the most famous black women writers in American Literature since the 1970s.She also created the new word "Womanism". Her most distinguished novel The Color Purple in 1982 was honored the highest prize in American Literature—Pulitzer Prize. Meanwhile, the excellent Hollywood director Spielberg adapted the novel into film in 1984, making it widely known by everybody. The novel tells us the tragic and suffering life of the protagonist Celie and the progress of her awakening. Finally, Celie found her self-value and saved her spirit. She gave herself a second chance to live a brand new life. The Color Purple uses the figure of epistolary style, which is very unique, making people be aware of the status of black females, and pay attention to them. It is these excellent black women writers that lead to the unprecedented liberation. Of black women, it is known as the example of all the females of the whole world that are treated equally. As is known that women can get their freedom and independence only when they gain a sense of their own worth, get rid of the spiritual shackles of social convention imposed on them, and guarantee the integrity of the spiritual world.

1.1A brief introduction to the author—Alice Walker
Alice Walker was born on February 9 ,1944,in Eatonton, Georgia, a poor sharecropper family. She studied in Sarah Lawrence College in New York(once traveled to Africa as an exchange student).She devoted herself into the vigorous Civil Right movement in and after her college life. The poverty in her childhood and the experience of political campaign provided her with abundant writing inspirations, and shaped her into a conscientious image. She dedicated all her life to the cause of striving for racial equality and women 's liberation. Most of her novels are set in the north of Georgia and the countryside of Mississippi which she was familiar with. And the prototypes in her novels are her parents and neighbors . Alice Walker firmly holds the view that females can truly achieve their independence and freedom only after finding their self-value, getting rid of the spiritual shackles which the society and customs imposed on their shoulders, preserving the completion of their own spiritual worlds. Alice Walker was one of the most magnificent and famous female writers in American literature since the 1970s. She was a productive writer and had a lot of excellent novels, poems and essays.
Alice Walker is an outstanding and excellent black woman writer not only in American Literature, but also in World Literature.
