摘要
弗兰纳里•奥康纳是美国20世纪著名的女性小说作家,她的著作大都以美国南部为背景。令人发省的暴力和人性的冷漠是其著名小说《好人难寻》中贯穿始终的独特元素,在这篇小说中,英语论文,人们通过暴力来逃脱精神的荒芜,与此同时,物欲横流的的社会风气让人与人之间的冷漠变得习以为常。文中的人物看似都是好人,其实他们的内心都是自私冷漠的,也正是他们的自私冷漠使得许多人性本善的“好人”走上了施暴的道路。暴力与冷漠是我们周围社会中常有的现象,英语毕业论文,而文学著作中此类主题也并不少见。文学著作中,有许多作家通过描写暴力来给人以感官刺激,亦有人把暴力作为媒介,对人性进行研讨。与此同时,冷漠则常用来反应人们对社会和生活的茫然失望,尤其是关于有着宗教信仰的西方国家,冷漠往往体现出信仰的缺失和道德的败坏。
本文认为《好人难寻》对暴力的描写貌似漫不经心, 实则透过平淡无奇的描绘, 逐渐使恐怖的气氛感染读者,令他们感到作者所探究的乃是人生中诸如信仰之类的根本性问题。同时作为一名虔诚的天主教徒,透过经济繁荣的社会表象, 奥康纳洞悉了美国人精神颓废、道德败坏、信仰丧失的内心世界。因此,在奥康纳的小说中,冷漠更多的体现了在金钱社会的压迫下,人们不仅失去表达的权力,也失去自身的宗教信仰。本文致力于挖掘小说叙述方式中的冷漠以及冷漠元素在小说女性角色中的体现,与此同时研讨暴力元素背后的宗教内涵和深刻意义。

Abstract
Flannery O’Connor is a celebrated 20th century American woman writer, she mainly set her stories in the southern America. Awful violence and indifference in human nature are two marked and unique elements of her famous short novel “A Good Man is Hard to Find”. In this novel, violence is an approach to escape from mental poverty and inspect common customs while it is normal to behave indifferent between man and man in this society which materialism and patriarchy has become a driving value. All characters in this novel seems to be a good man, however, selfishness and indifference are their common human nature which in turn lead some kind-hearted people feel disappointed to this terrible world and resort to violence to be released. Violence and indifference exist in every corner of our society, and it is easily to find that there are a large number of literary works try to use that theme. In fact, most of the authors apply the description of violence to bring sensory stimuli for readers, there are also many articles regard the violence as a medium to reflect the real humanity. At the meantime, indifference usually suggests people’s disappointment of the realities of modern society and the heavy life. According to the religious faith in western countries, indifference is not only means loss of faith but also embody one’s bad conscience.
This thesis hold the view that “The Good Man is Hard to Find” attempts to infect the readers through carelessly description of violence which makes them believe that O’Connor was probing the mystery of faith. As a very devout Catholic, she understands thoroughly that behind the economic prosperity’s illusion, Americans are suffering from the mental deterioration and loss of faith. That’s why in her novels indifference always occurs in the oppression of cash society where people lose both of their legal rights and religious believes. This paper aims to unveiling the indifference reflects in novel’s narrative way and women characters, as well as the religious and spiritual sense of violence elements.
