摘要
《了不起的盖茨比》被誉为是菲茨杰拉德最伟大的一部著作。小说主要讲述了出生于农民家庭的主人公盖茨比，执着地追求美国梦，追求富家女黛西，最后却以悲惨的结局结束了生命的故事。该小说出版至今约90年，但是人们对它的热爱并没有随着时间的流逝而减少。在这90年的时间里，《了不起的盖茨比》先后被改编成电影、话剧等其他的艺术形式。不仅如此，评论家也特别钟爱这部小说，他们从不同的方面对《了不起的盖茨比》一书进行了评析，比如：盖茨比的伟大之处，小说中的“美国梦”解读，小说中象征手法的应用等。本文将从一个不同的角度来解读这部小说，即盖茨比的不伟大之处。盖茨比是一个普通人，英语论文网站，是人都不可能是十全十美的。本文将略论盖茨比的性格弱点，并探索其性格弱点形成的原因。通过对盖茨比性格弱点的略论，可以更好的理解他这一生的悲剧以及当时美国社会的悲哀。

Abstract
The Great Gatsby is considered as the greatest novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s. It tells a story about Gatsby who is born in a poor family pursuing for American dream and a rich lady Daisy by persistence. Finally, he is killed by Mr. Wilson so that his life ends as a tragedy. It has been about 90 years since this novel was first published, while people’s admiration for this novel doesn’t reduce as time goes by. During this period, The Great Gatsby is adapted to various forms of art, such as film, drama and so on. Moreover, this novel is very popular with the critics, who analyze this novel from various aspects, for example analyzing the greatness of Gatsby, researching the American dream in this novel, studying the symbolism of the novel and so on. This paper will study the novel from an aspect that is unlike those traditional aspects. There is no perfect man in the world, and Gatsby is no exception. In this paper, I will analyze Gatsby’s character defects and the reasons resulting in his character defects. By studying his character defects, it is better for us to understand the tragedy of Gatsby’s life and American society.
