摘要
《拉合尔茶馆的陌生人》是美籍巴基斯坦作家莫欣•哈米德2017年出版的继《蛾烟》之后的一部优秀著作，成为全球22个国家和地区联袂推出的9•11后颠覆一代青年“美国梦”的黑色悬疑畅销书。小说以“独白性”对话的形式，简洁生动地描述了巴基斯坦中产阶级青年在美国主流文化与伊斯兰文化作用下追寻美国梦而最终梦想破灭的经历。
小说中，对于主人翁的身份变化和选择贯穿全文。研讨文化冲突对主人翁文化身份的作用是本论文的中心内容。本论文以爱德华•萨义德、霍米•巴巴对文化身份提出的相关理论为支撑，从后殖民视角对《拉合尔茶馆的陌生人》进行解读。本文论述了文化冲突对昌盖兹的作用：矛盾角色的产生、周围人对他的误解以及文化身份的转变，英语论文题目，展现了主人翁遭遇身份认同危机、被迫选择自身文化身份的艰难过程,揭示了其美国梦破灭的悲剧性与必然性。

Abstract
The Reluctant Fundamentalist, written by a Pakistani-American writer Mohsin Hamid, is published in 2017 after the publishment of Moth Smoke. It is a brilliant work, which subverts the young generation’s idea about “American Dream” after the event of 9/11. It becomes the black suspense bestseller in twenty-two countries and regions. In the form of dramatic monologue, the novel concisely narrates the experience of a young Pakistani who pursues his “American Dream” but fails at last under the influence of cultural conflicts between America and Islam.
As the conversion of the main character’s identity and his changing group selection run through the whole novel, the thesis highlights the discussion of cultural identity, especially the discussion of how cultural conflicts affect Changez’s cultural identity. The thesis, based on theories of cultural identity which are brought forth by Edward Said and Homi Bhabha, interprets The Reluctant Fundamentalist. By analyzing the text, it illustrates the burden of identity crisis and hardness of group selection. In addition, it discloses Changez’s American dream is doomed to break as the result of cultural conflicts and his characteristics.
