Abstract
Mark Twain is one of the greatest authors in the 19th century. His works also represented the American Realism Literature. In his life, he created a great deal of works, among which The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is widely considered to be one of the most significant works of the western classics, and it is thus often included on the list of most influential or greatest books. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has won everlasting acclaim. Scholars at home and abroad have done a lot of researches on it, concerning its plot, characters and theme and its use of dialect, etc. .
There are many contrasts in this novel, especially the contrast between life on the bank and life on the river, through which the writer expresses his criticism of the civilized society and his longing for freedom. This paper consists of three parts. It firstly deals with a brief introduction of Mark Twain and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Then, it describes Huck’s life on the bank and Huck’s life on the river respectively, sums up the features of the two kinds of life and analyzes the effects that the two kinds of life have exerted on Huck. Finally, the paper states the significance of the contrast between life on the bank and life on the river.

摘 要
马克•吐温是19世纪美国最伟大的作家之一,他的著作也是美国现实主义文学的代表。他一生创作颇丰,其中《哈克贝利•芬恩历险记》被广泛认为是西方经典最重要的著作之一,因此也常常被列为最具作用力和最伟大的著作之一。《哈克贝利•芬恩历险记》经久不衰,英语毕业论文,引起国内外学者的关注与探讨,包括对其情节,人物,英语论文题目,主题及方言的应用等方面的探讨。
在这部小说中,马克•吐温应用了大量的对比的创作手法,尤其是岸上生活与河上生活的对比,他借此来表达对虚伪的文明社会的批判态度以及对自由的向往。本文分为三个部分,首先,简要介绍作家及著作。紧接着描述岸上生活及河上生活,并总结两种生活各自的特点,及其分别对哈克造成的作用。最后一部分着重略论岸上生活与河上生活对比的意义。
