Abstract:
This paper introduces Alice Monroe’s writing background of focusing on ordinary women, describes the experiences of several main female characters in her collection of short stories Runaway such as Carla in Runaway, Juliet in Chance and Grace in Passion and analyzes ordinary women’s destiny. Then the paper discusses the extended meaning of Runaway and draws a conclusion based on the analysis mentioned above.
With the women as the first heroines, Runaway describes a group of ordinary women who want to escape. With much hesitation, frustration and loss, they always want to escape from the family, the sex or the self. Their feet seem to be tied with a rope, which may be very long but eventually be able to straighten up and no longer move. Runaway is not aimless; it always has a coordinate to leave that point. Runaway is perhaps the end of the old, perhaps the beginning of the new.

本论文将介绍爱丽丝•门罗聚焦于普通女性的写作背景，并描述短篇小说集《逃离》中几个主要女性人物经历，比如《逃离》中的卡拉，《机会》中的朱丽叶，《激情》中格蕾丝，并略论《逃离》中平凡女性的命运，研讨逃离的引申义，最后基于以上略论得出结论。
《逃离》以女性为第一主人公，写了一群普通女性的“逃离”经历。“她”始终要逃离的是家庭、是两性、是自我，英语论文，是带着无限的犹豫、无奈、怅惘、迷离的逃离。像是脚上被绳子拴住，这根绳子可能很长，英语论文，但终有拉直了再也无法前进一步的时刻。“逃离”不是漫无目的的逃离，它始终有个坐标，就是离开那个点。逃离，或许是旧的结束，或许是新的开始。

1 Introduction
Alice Monroe’s collection of short stories Runaway includes eight stories, three of which are interrelated (Chance, Soon and Silence). These eight short stories have a common theme---runway and a common protagonist---an ordinary woman in a small town.
The women Alice Monroe describes always struggle in trivial life to catch the opportunity to depart from the boredom of their life. Wives escape from their husbands; daughters escape from their mothers; fiancees flee from their fiances. However, when they really choose to flee with the desire for a better life, they find what they choose is not better. Regardless of how they flee, eventually they are still trapped in the endless, trivial life. And it is not the best solution to their problems.
Runaway is composed of eight stories which are mixed together to form a scroll with the similar character background, experiences and emotions.
