摘 要
《老人与海》中主人公老渔人桑提亚哥是海明威塑造的一位英雄式人物，也是作者一生所塑造的成熟、英雄、硬汉子形象的辉煌结晶。在《老人与海》的主人公圣地亚哥身上，海明威寄托了他对人性的深刻理解和信念。在这篇文章中我们可以看到一个有感情的平凡人通过自己非凡的勇气和自我控制力取得伟大的成就。通过对桑提亚哥这一人物形象的略论，我们获得不少启示:在残酷的社会现实和命运中，人应该勇敢地面对一切痛苦和磨难，英语论文题目，并同一切痛苦和磨难进行斗争，热爱生活，珍惜生命。我们还应该懂得人生的意义既不在于“成功”，英语论文题目，也不在于“失败”，而在于抗争。他的智慧、勇气、乐观主义精神，汇聚成了桑提亚哥个人独一无二的英雄形象。

Abstract
The hero, Santiago, the old fisherman in The Old man and the Sea, is the shape of a Hemingway hero figure. And it is also on the shape of the mature life, hero, and tough guy image of the brilliant crystal. In The Old Man and the Sea, the writer, Ernest Hemingway, placed his deep understanding of human nature and beliefs on the soul of the protagonist Santiago. This article shows a feeling of ordinary people through his own extraordinary courage and self-control made great achievements. Through analysis the character, we get a lot of inspiration that in the harsh social reality and destiny. People should be brave to face all the pain and suffering, and try to fight with all of them. Love life, cherish life. We should also understand the meaning of life which is not “successful”, nor the “failure”, but to fight. His wisdom, fortitude, optimism, became Santiago’s personal unique hero image.

1 Introduction
This paper is talking about the man called Santiago, who is coming from the famous book The Old Man and the Sea written by Ernest Hemingway. Through analysis his image, we can easily understand the aims of Hemingway.
1.1 Purpose of the essay
Ernest Hemingway was one of the most famous novelist in America. The heroes in his works are often the so-called “tough guys”. In The Old Man and the Sea, he created an unforgettable image of a heroic character--- Santiago and the novel won Hemingway Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. The Old Man and the Sea --- Hemingway’s masterpiece has world reputation and affects people deeply because he gave the hero, Santiago, not only an image of code hero, but also the spirit of self-confidence. This paper will explores the image of the old man, reveal the personality of the heroic character, and advocate the spirit of never giving up.
