1 Introduction
1.1 The purpose and significance of this thesis
The Scarlet Letter, the book written by Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the greatest works in American literature history. As a masterpiece, many scholars have great interest in The Scarlet Letter. Just as the American critic Nina. BeiM’s opinion: “The Scarlet Letter is a novel focusing on depicting the conflict between the natural and social.” In order to understand the work more conveniently, I analyze it through the female perspective of feminism. Because the author created two heroes who have different characters, I choose to compare them. By comparison, the reason why the heroine would choose to be against the destiny at last is distinct.
