Background of the Research It has been long debated in the field of Chinese college English education that the focus of teaching and learning should be shifted from the focus knowledge-centeredness, test-centeredness, and teacher-centeredness to skill-centeredness, communication-centeredness and student-centeredness (O’Malley et al.1995a, Weinstein & Mayer1986:315, Cohen 1998, Nunnan 1999). Various articles, books, studies and research have discussed how learners process information and what strategies they employ to understand and learn a second language, and what effective and efficient ways of English language teaching can be inferred from such studies ( Oxford 1990, Cohen 1990, O’Malley & Chomat 1990, Wenden 1991, Brown 1991, Rubin &Thompson 1994, Mendelsohn 1994, McDonough 1995). As Nunnan said, within the field of education during the last two decades; a gradual but significant shift has taken place, resulting in less stress on teachers and teaching and greater emphasis on learners and learning. (Nunnan, 1988) Language is a system of arbitrary vocal symbols used for human communication, which indicates the ultimate purpose of learning a foreign language is to communicate with others and for this, listening and speaking are indeed significant. Unfortunately, they have been neglected for a long time, especially in China where a great premium has been placed on written English by the teachers as well as the students because they are obliged to pass all kinds of exams and tests which mainly focus on form and accuracy. Nowadays, as the communication between China and the whole world is on the increase, the roles of listening and speaking are becoming all the more prominent. In addition, the newly adapted College English Curriculum requirements (2017) also point out: ……College English teaching, directed by foreign language teaching theory, should have the contents as English language knowledge, application ability, learning strategies and cross-cultural communication, and should be a system combined with multiple teaching modes and teaching means. The teaching goal of college English is to develop students’ English integrate ability, especially listening and speaking abilities…….listening and speaking requirements should be fully taken into consideration when designing the College English curriculum…...a large quantity of advanced Information Technology should be employed, and computer-based and web-based English software teaching should be promoted……a significant symbol of successful teaching innovation is that the students can master a learning method of individualization and develop a self-directed ability…..
