1.1 Background
1.1.1 Importance of EFL writing
Nowadays,English writing has become an important means of communicating feelings and exchanging ideas among different people from different countries. As one of “four basic language skills", EFL writing plays an indispensible part in English teaching as well as English learning practice. Since EFL writing is one of productive skills, it can reflect students' English comprehensive competence. EFL writing practice is of great importanceand it can promote the process of English learning. Therefore, EFL writing is a language practical activity that can't be neglected. It's widely acknowledged that EFL writing plays asignificant role in connecting the development of language four skills. Firstly, EFL writing can be conductive not only to the consolidation of English language materials but also to the internalization of language knowledge and improvement of accuracy of linguistic performance. Therefore, their listening and reading abilities will be improved. Meanwhile, it can promote students' speaking competence. Furthermore, EFL writing practice can enhance students' abilities of logical thoughts and problem analysis.

1.1.2 The requirements for EFL writing of senior high school in the new English
Curriculum StandardThe English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School (2017) has higherrequirements to EFL writing. It lays emphasis on the cultivation of learners' capacity of usingEnglish properly, capacity of using language to get and process information and capacity ofcritical thinking. Also, it puts more stress on fostering students' capacity of using language toanalyze and solve problems. Meanwhile, it requires students at different stages reach differentlevels in EFL writing, which are from Band Six to Band Nine. The objectives of Band Sixrequire students should write notes or simple letters in proper form, describe a person or anevent and state their views briefly, write greeting cards with proper expressions, write tofriends or pen-friends to communicate messages or ideas and revise what they have written. The writing objectives of Band Seven are as follows: Students can use words or charts toprovide information and make a brief description, write letters or notices and so on, describea person, an event and make comments on them briefly, fill in forms about personal affairs,like a resume or an application form, adapt short plays according to the texts. Senior highschool graduates must achieve the requirements of Band Seven. Band Eight objectivesrequire students should have the ability of retelling or making a summary according to thetexts they have read, writing passages or reports according to the given words or diagrams,writing passages with coherent discourses and complete structures, recounting events orexpressing opinions or attitudes, and composing fluently with standard formats.
