1.1 Research Background
China has increasingly frequent exchanges and contacts with other countries in the fieldsof politics, economy, science and technology, culture and etc. The demand for English talentsfrom all walks of life is on a substantial increase and the requirements for English talents arealso increasingly strict.Cultivating high-level and high-quality English talents has a strong relation withhigh-quality English coursebooks while the contents and styles of the coursebooks must beconstantly adjusted to comply with the social requirements for English talents. As Dai (2017)puts it,in the 21century, English teaching is not English training, but English educationinstead,英语论文题目,with English skills as the main objectives. English teaching is to cultivateinterdisciplinary talents with high quality in a comprehensive way. The compiling of Englishcoursebooks for English majors should comply with this trend.Learners, as the main users and service objects of the coursebooks, have their ownunderstandings about whether the coursebooks are suitable for their learning and theirunderstandings,whose views are different from some scholars' and teachers'; therefore, whenevaluating the coursebooks, we should take the learners' views into consideration, and set thelearners' need as one subject. However, in the present situation, few studies are made from theperspective of learners' needs. This study attempts to explore the degree of matching betweenlearners' needs and coursebooks, and to test the applicability of the coursebooks on the basisof students, needs analysis.English Teaching Syllabus for college English Majors clearly describes the educationalgoals and specifications for College English majors in China in the 21 century: Thosegraduates should have solid foundations on English skills,broad range of professionalknowledge, strong ability and comprehensive qualityy.

1.2 The Significance and Purposes of the Research
In China,英语论文题目,English coursebooks play a role as main source of English study; therefore,thecomprehensive English coursebooks and their exercises exert important impacts on Englishteaching and learning.This study attempts to evaluate the Contemporary College English: Intensive Reading(the CCEIR for abbreviation) from the perspective of needs analysis on learners' needs. Theresults about learners' needs can be attained through questionnaires and interviews. Throughinvestigation, the study tries to analyze whether the CCEIR meets learners' needs,andexplores the degree of matching between learners' needs and the coursebooks.

Needs analysis is a systematic and sustained process of gathering information aboutlearners' needs,analyzing the gathered information, and making decisions based on thecomprehension of the information.
