1  衔接理论运用于商务英语听力教学实例略论


商务英语听力教学中,教师有必要向学生提相关的衔接理论,使他们了解衔接手段在听力语篇中交替使用这一现象,并逐渐学会推导句子间的逻辑联系,把握话语的真正意图,从而更完整地把握听力材料所表达的意思,掌握语言交流的核心信息,最终有效提高听力理解能力。以下以 《新剑桥商务英语 ( 初级) 》和 《新剑桥商务英语 ( 中级) 》中具有代表性的听力材料为实例,略论如何运用衔接手段来把握听力材料,以达到理解全文的目的。


1. 1 演讲

以下是一位人力资源部的培训经理对新员工作的一次培训,这次讲话的主要内容是让新员工了解这家企业的组织结构。Now today I'll start off by telling you a little about the structure ofComex Xpress. The head of the company here in Glasgow is the CEO orChief Executive Officer,and that's Mr. Bateman.Now,as you know, Comex Xpress is divided into four divisions:Production,Finance,Sales and Human Resources.The first division here is production and that is headed by the PlantManager, Tom McEwan. The Technicians, Maintenance Officers andQuality Controllers all report to him, as do the Packing and DispatchClerks.The next division is Finance and this department is headed by theChief Accountant - Joshua Goldfinger. The Accounts Clerks and CreditControllers,who check that customers have settled their invoices,reportto him as does the Purchasing Officer.Then we come onto the Marketing division which is both sales andmarketing. The head of Marketing is Ms Julie Nicolson. She's responsible forthe Export Clerks,the Sales Representatives who are on the road,and Af-ter - sales Clerks who deal with any problems that arise with our products.Finally we have the Human Resources department,headed by SheilaBarrett. You met the Recruitment Officer Fiona Lewes at your inter-views. Then there's myself,the Training Officer and finally the Pay Clerk- Ian Weir - so if you have any queries about salaries and so on you shouldgo and see him( 《新剑桥商务英语 ( 初级) 》P126,3. 1B)在听这篇听力材料的时候,教师应指导学生运用以下衔接手段来把握听力材料,以达到理解的目的:( 1) 共现: 在开始听之前,教师应指导学生对围绕企业组织结构 ( the structure) 相关的词语进行联想,一般的 公 司 都 会 设 置 如 生 产 ( production) 、财 务 ( fi-nance) 、销售 ( sales) 、人力资源 ( human resource) 等部门,再对每个部门一般会涉及的岗位进行联想,如生产部门 ( production) 包括加工 ( process) 、技术 ( tech-nique) 、质检 ( quality) 、包装 ( packing) 、维护 ( main-tenance) 等, 而 人 力 资 源 部 一 般 负 责 招 聘 ( recruit-ment) 、培训 ( training) 以及薪酬 ( payment) 等。这样在听到相同或相近的词语时,就可以证实预测,从而对整个语篇有了较好的把握。( 2) 连接: 在听的时候,英语论文网站,我们注意到,培训经理为了使新员工对整个企业的架构有一个清晰的印象,他的讲话是很有条理的,使用了一些连接语来列举各部门以及各岗位,这时应注意表示列举的连接语,如 the first division,the next division,then,finally,在做听力笔记的时候就可以有条不紊,而且不至于遗漏。同时,培训经理在讲到简称如 CEO 的时候,对其进行了解释说明。这时,教师指导学生注意连接词 or,就可以得知后面的内容便是 CEO的全称或对其所做的进一步说明。这时学生也就知道了培训经理是从最高职务开始,接着再介绍企业下属其他部门,从而了解整个语篇的大致轮廓,有利于做好听力笔记,加深理解。( 3) 照应: 培训经理多次用到人称代词来体现人称照应,如 she,he,him 等,用名词性指示代词如 that 和指示性副词如 here 来体现指示照应。教师应指导学生准确把握这些词所照应的具体内容,从而准确理解整个语篇。如语篇中有三个 him,而这三个 him 却分别照应了不同的具体内容,在生产部门,him 照应的是工厂经理 TomMcEwan; 在财务部,him 照应的是总会计师 Joshua Gold-finger; 而在人力资源部, him 照应的是薪酬专员 IanWeir。学生在听的时候,需要弄清楚每个 him 所照应的具体内容,英语论文题目,否则会混淆整个语篇的内容。( 4) 替代: 我们注意到,培训经理在描述各部门下属向其主管汇报工作时,用到了 do/does 这样的动词替代,如果我们能够准确理解 do/does 替代的是上文提到的report to 这个动作,就能够完整理解各岗位的职责。
