INTRODUCTION
The Assyrian, a branch of the Semite, is located in the north of the Tigris Euphrates valley. The largest feature of the Assyrian was that the race was advocating the military force more than any other race. The Assyrian largest contribution to the human beings’ civilization was their techniques and arts of war, because the Assyrian country was full of military colors on the politics, culture and economy (#SUMERIANS:). The relieves left behind by the Assyrians were almost concerned with the military affairs. The Assyrian military power, however, was the strongest in the whole West Asia at that time.
THE RISE AND SUCCESS OF ASSYRIA
With the fall and collapse of Egypt, the Assyrians began to develop themselves quickly and largely Assyria dominated the near east and established there once for a time. The rise and success of Assyria was owned to its strong military affairs with three main reasons. The first one was that the Assyrians had deep military ideas and military quality. As far as the Assyrians were concerned, the word “military affairs” was almost the same word of nation, holding the view that nation was a large machine of war to maintain a large scale of army and take the expansion as the first task. The second reason why Assyria had strong army was that the Assyrians had perfect techniques of war ().
At that time, the Assyrians had cavalry, infantry and sapper, which was leading before many other countries. When fighting against enemies, these armies were arranged properly. Meanwhile, the Assyrians used rapid march to win time and understood the divide-and-conquer technique, which was Napoleon’s treasure of victory later. Last but not least, the Assyrians owned advanced weapons and equipment. The iron-made weapons, such as iron sword, bow and arrow, chariot, shields and corselet, let the Assyrians become the ever-victorious general. The strong military affairs with three key reasons made the Assyrians stretched over the west Asian continent without barriers and established an empire for a long time ().
THE POLITICAL AND MILITARY METHODS AND TECHNIQUES
With the advocate of military affairs, the king of Assyrian Empire owned absolute supreme rights. The king cancelled the hereditary governor and founded a new administrative government. The Assyrian king had extreme control on the national resources and established a more effective intelligence transmission system. The system was responsible for transmitting information by horse and was so effective that only one provincial manager could manage the nationwide information at that time ().
As for the military techniques and methods, the Assyrians produced senior military officers and powerful soldiers with years of fighting experience, who could register and command armies composed of thousands of soldiers. Meanwhile, the Assyrian armies were very disciplined, which were at the military core of infantry, accompanying with cavalry and sapper. With a large scale of army with iron weapon, the Assyrian army was good at utilizing appropriate military strategy and techniques. They were able to do mountain warfare and surrounding warfare on the plain. With perfect military techniques, the Assyrian could got victories again and again.
THE WAY TO DOMINATE THE AR EAST
The Assyrian army owned advanced weapons and powerful military quality. With the overwhelming advantages, the Assyrian defeated other countries one by one. They had iron outstanding equipment like swords, arrows, chariots, shields, cuirasses, etc. Mangonel, the strongest weapon to destroy a castle, was the special weapon of the Assyrian army. By using such the weapons, numerous enemies went to death immediately (). For example, when the Assyrian army tried to capture Syrian capital, the people in the Syrian capital were fighting until they died. The Assyrian army used their advanced weapons, especially the mangonel, to capture the capital successfully (). By using its equipment, they captured many castles and occupied many cities. Therefore, it was the Assyrians’ strong military affairs and techniques that made them dominate the Near East, and established an empire in the end.
THE FALL OF THE EMPIRE
It was the Assyrians’ advocate of military affairs that made them rise and succeed in founding an empire, as well as let them go into the fall and end too (). The king always pursued strong military army and high military quality, but ignored the development of industry and commerce, which resulted in the fall of the national strength. Meanwhile, people looked down upon those that worked as merchants or workers because of the deep concepts of pursuing military affairs.
Therefore, the national economy went into depression gradually. Also, for years of frequent wars, the national resources and wealth were almost consumed, and thus increased the instability of the society. To make matters worse, the military officers began to assign tasks to their subordinates and became extravagant and dissipated in their daily life. In Summary, the Assyrian Empire was unavoidable to decline, resulting from the dissatisfaction with the pursuit of military affairs and the failure of the development of industry and commerce, which could not support the increasingly heavy the consumption of the national resources and wealth.
