Ordinary Senior High school English Curriculum Standard (2017) (hereafter refers to as Standard)requires that teachers must pay attention to students’ interests of English learning, life experience andcognitive level in the courses of design, with different types of classes having made the corresponding classactivities. That is to say when the teachers designing the lead-in, they should consider how to arousestudents’ interests and desire of study, and make students clear about learning objectives. According to thestandard requirement we can see that lead-in is a very important part in the whole classroom teaching andalso a key to arouse the students’ curiosity. A good lead-in is a very important in a satisfactory classroomteaching, and appropriate lead-in can receive a satisfactory effect. While in practice, most of Englishteachers in senior high school are busying considering how to explain knowledge points, due to theexcessive teaching tasks. They neglect the design of lead-in and often use only one or two ways to lead innew materials, as a result, the effects of the lead-in are unsatisfactory. In order to arouse the teachers paymore attention to lead-in, and consider lead-in as an important part to the whole classroom teaching, theauthor makes a research of the lead-in in Shangshui NO.3 senior high school: First, the author aims to learnabout the present situation of English lead-in in senior high school and to know about existing problems atpresent through classroom observation; Followed, the author aims to know about teachers and students’standpoints for lead-in through questionnaire survey; Finally, the author analyzes the data of collected fromthe research and puts forward some reasonable advice on how to improve and enhance the effectiveness oflead-in in English teaching in senior high school according to the analysis of the research results.

Looking through the literature about the lead-in, there are many articles about the lead-in, but littleindependent discussion of system, so far, the author has found a book lead-in (《导入》), written by LiuLi in 2017. Lead-in is a teaching skill, at the beginning of the classroom teaching. It directly affects thewhole classroom teaching. An appropriate lead-in is a very important and is an essential link in theclassroom teaching. At the beginning of the class, teachers use various methods to create learningatmosphere so as to arouse the students’ enthusiasm.In view of the relevant literature, there are many related theories on lead-in, which pay attention to itsmethods. But very few theories pay more attention to its importance of applying it to the classroomteaching.The author makes a research of English lead-in in senior high school classroom teaching to knowabout the present situation of English lead-in in senior high school classroom teaching and existingproblems and helps the teacher to realize the importance of lead-in in English classroom teaching.
