Abstract:

In recently years, more and more children’s literature translation works appear in the Chinese market with the quality worries. Since the children’s literature is at the marginal position in discipline field, and the reading level, knowledge experience and life experience of children is quite different from that of adults, its translation is quite different from adults’. This paper discusses it under the guidance of reception theory with the status of reader and horizon of expectation of the theory. By comparing and analyzing two Chinese versions of The Happy Prince, this paper discusses the relative translation strategy from the aspect of diction choice, syntax selection, rhetoric usage and culture exchange. Using appropriate translation strategy is a better choice to make Chinese children readers read and understand more easily.

1.    Introduction
It is universally known that children’s literature plays an essential role and has a far-reaching influence in the growth of children. When talking about children’s literatures which have left a very deep impression in childhood, excellent works like the Grimm Tales, Anderson’s Tales, and Aesop’s Fables etc. present in people’s mind. By introducing foreign children’s literature works mentioned above, many famous scholars such as Zhou Zuoren, Luxun, and Bajin etc, have made great contribution to Chinese children’s literature. The translation of children’s literature appears to date back to the late Qing Dynasty. Since the May 4th Movement, a large number of excellent children’ literature of foreign countries has been introduced to mainland. In recent years, there are also quite a few Chinese versions of foreign literature of children being continuously introduced or retranslated, many of which are wildly enjoyed by either children readers or adults. Nevertheless, the theoretical study of children’s literature in China is not as satisfactory as its flourishing market. Just as Xu Derong said that the development of the translation of children’s literature in theoretical and practical aspects are unbalanced. More and more translated work of children’s literature come to the market, but the studies on that seems so poor. [1] It seems very necessary to pay more attention to a systematic children’s literature translation theory and the guidance of that which can contribute to the translation strategies.
