Abstract:
Shui Hu Zhuan is a monument of ancient Chinese literature history and also represents a peak period of the development of Chinese classical novels, with its vivid depiction of different female images. The English versions of this great novel have exerted extensive influences on the whole world. As a well-educated woman in western culture, who is also proficient in Chinese culture, Pearl is the first one succeeding in translating Shui Hu Zhuan. In the process of translation, she analyzes the foreignization of female images in a personalized way, which embodies her typical feminist consciousness. However, cultural and ideological differences exert influences on the reconstitution of feminism. Therefore,, with translation theories concerning feminism, this thesis aims to discuss the feminism in Shui Hu Zhuan and the reconstitution of feminism in its English version All Men Are Brothers.

1. Introduction
Shui Hu Zhuan, one of the monuments of Chinese ancient literature, reflects Shi Nai’an’s attitudes towards different women, such as Pan Jin’lian and Yan Po’xi. The majority of the female figures in Chinese classical literature are beautiful, talented, gentle and obedient, but not independent in personality as well as in psychology. Shi Nai’an, a traditional Confucian, without exception, has a prejudice against women and thus keeps female images and their status more prominent. However, Shi Nai”an created quite a few brand new figures in his masterpiece, such as Gu Da’sao ,Sun Er’niang and Hu San’niang. In terms of appearances and inner hearts, these three female characters reflected a great change in the Chinese literary history in that they were no longer the subsidiary of male¬¬ dominated culture due to the lack of sense of subjectivity, which is a mark of the early feminist consciousness and literary transformation.
What’s more, Shi also shows sympathy for the weak women, like the wife of Lin Chong, Jin Cui’lian. To some immoral women, like Pan Jin’lian, Yan Po’xi, Pan Qiao’yun, the author tries to present their true feelings of lives and reveal their living pains. To Bai Xiu’ying and Li Shi’shi, such women can’t have their own rights to choose their lovers and decide their destinies. They are victims of the history. The author wants to reveal the darkness of the society.
