功能语言学与大学英语阅读课教学模式[英语论文]

[摘要]英语阅读是提高学生各种英语基本能力的主要途径,因而是大学英语教学的核心。以此根据功能语言学理论,结合论文格式交互式教学模式,试图建立一种新的阅读教学模式,为大学英语阅读教学提供新的思路和框架。

在听、说、读、写四大技能中,阅读技能具有不可低估的影响。阅读是读者输入性的语言活动,是以英语为第二语言学生获取英语知识,提高英语技能的重要手段。韩礼德在谈到语言学探讨的角度时说,系统功能语言学从社会符号的角度探讨语言是针对其所关心的主要问题,特别是教育问题,具体地讲,是语言的学习和教学问题。所以功能语言学对英语教学具有指导意义。以此首先介绍韩礼德的功能语言学教学思想,然后根据功能语言学理论试图建立一种新的阅读教学模式,为阅读教学提供新的思路和框架。

一、韩礼德功能语言学教学思想

韩礼德对语言教育的主要贡献是对于如何学习和教授母语,同时也考虑第二语言或外语教学。韩礼德对外语教学的主要贡献主要表现在三个方面:对教学理论和思想的明确、儿童是如何掌握自己的母语的以及语言在社会和教育中的影响。

首先,在外语教学中,必须要有一定的理论作为指导,教师要尽量创造适合于学生的学习环境,即:以学生为中心,教师为指导,英语论文题目,由教师和学生共同创造和完成教学过程。外语教学最好的模式是教师发展学生的意义潜势,帮助学生用语言来表达意义,学会用所学的语言说话。其次,了解儿童语言的习得过程可以指导外语教师更好地设计外语教学大纲,指导外语教学过程,用来培养学生学习外语的兴趣。再次,韩礼德认为,外语教学主要是教授外语的技能。外语知识学习只是辅助性的,有利于促进外语学习,但不能代替外语技能的训练。

二、以功能语言学为指导的阅读教学模式

在此结合“交互模式”和功能语言学,试图建立一种新的教学模式。作者将以《新视野大学英语》第四册第一课“The Temptation”为例来进行说明。

(一)运用功能语法理论略论课文,指导学生欣赏文章内容

首先让学生对文章进行泛读,然后根据对文章的内容进行分段,概括段落大意。之后教师可就文章中重点句型和难句进行讲解和略论,因为面对的是大学生,建议教师不要将该部分作为教学的重点。教师应该将重点放在学生理解了文章内容的情况下,指导学生欣赏文章内容。功能语法可以很好地帮助学生欣赏文章内容。根据功能语法理论,一个语篇同时由概念功能、人际功能、语篇功能来实现。概念功能是代表、反映或解释世界的功能,人际功能是交际参与者分配角色和对语篇做出判断的功能,语篇功能是用各种语言手段将语篇中的各个句子连接成一篇连贯的文章的功能(韩礼德,1994)。在此就所选文章的一部分来举例说明:

Mrs.不拉达heard footsteps coming from the direction of the barn;she knew it was古为内尔.She hoped to remain unnot-iced,but her white gown revealed her to him.He seated himself upon the bench beside her,without a suspicion that she might object to his presence.

“Your husband told me to bring this to you,Mrs.不拉达,”he said,handing her a length of sheer white fabric with which she sometimes covered her head and shoulders.She accepted it from him and let it lie in her lap.

He made some routine observations upon the unhealthy effect of the night breeze at that season.Then as his gaze reached out into the darkness,he began to talk.

古为内尔was in no sense a shy man.His periods of silence were not his basic nature,but the result of moods.When he was sitting there beside Mrs.不拉达,his silence melted for the time.

He talked freely and intimately in a low,hesitating voice that was not unpleasant to hear.He talked of the old college days when he and Gaston had been best friends,of the days of keen ambitions and large intentions.Now,all there was left with him was a desire to be permitted to exist,with now and then a little breath of genuine life,such as he was breathing now.

Her mind only vaguely grasped what he was saying.His words became a meaningless succession of verbs,nouns,ad-verbs,and adjectives;she only drank in the tones of his voice. She wanted to reach out her hand in the darkness and touch him-which she might have done if she had not been a respectable woman.

The stronger the desire grew to bring herself near him,the further,in fact,did she move away from him.As soon as she could do so without an appearance of being rude,she pretended to yawn,rose,and left him there alone.

所选的文章部分讲述了不拉达是如何从讨厌古为内尔到被他吸引的一个过程,是文章的高潮部分。本文只对及物性略论举例说明。
