摘要
詹姆斯•乔伊斯被誉为二十世纪英国文学史上最伟大的作家之一,他发明了文字游戏,宣称他的著作能使学者们忙碌几个世纪,并开辟了新的艺术形式,为英国现代主义文学的发展奠定了基础。
《都柏林人》是乔伊斯的第一部代表著作,作者通过十五个短篇小说,描写了都柏林中下层人民的生活,通过在挣扎中顿悟的主人公,揭示了都柏林社会的瘫痪和无力。
本文主要探讨了《都柏林人》中的青少年形象,结合成长小说理论,从成长小说典型特征的角度出发,略论了青少年人物在成长过程中遭遇的困境。并进一步研讨了青少年的成长困境与著作主题的关系。
本文对《都柏林人》童年篇与青年篇中主人公的成长困境,从三个方面进行了深入略论:追逐希望、寻求逃避以及面对爱情。继而由对成长困境的略论,揭示了都柏林作为瘫痪的核心,从青少年开始蔓延至整个社会的精神瘫痪。

Abstract
James Joyce is esteemed as one of the greatest writers in British literature of the 20th century. He invented the word games and boosted that his work could keep scholars busy for generations. He created a new art form and laid the foundation for the development of British modern literature.
Dubliners is the first representative work of James Joyce. The author, through fifteen short stories, presented the lower people’s life in Dublin and revealed the paralysis of Dublin society through epiphany achieved in their experiences.
This thesis focuses on the youth images in Dubliners. Combined with the Bildungsroman theory, the thesis presents the difficulties young characters confronted in growing up from the perspective of typical characteristics in Bildungsroman, and further explores the connections between the difficulties and the main themes of Dubliners.
The thesis divides the short stories of childhood and adolescence in Dubliners into three parts and discusses young characters’ difficulties in their growing process from three aspects: chasing hope, escape and facing love. It finally reaches the conclusion that the difficulties are very essential for the book in revealing the spiritual paralysis spreading from children and adolescents to the whole society in Dublin- the center of paralysis.
