Buck arduous road of survival reflected the reality of the American society of that time vividly and truly and reproduced the Klondike Gold Rush Age on American history. The second chapter of the novel focuses on Buck’s desire on new life. Buck was a cultivated dag came from South. He went to the wasteland which was far away from human civilization but he adapted to the challenging environment very soon. The third chapter expounds that Buck bears the nature of ferociousness and at the same time has a passion for sacrifice. We are convinced that he is incumbent upon the cruel Buck to show responsibility, love and loyalty after obtaining human beings equal respect. In order to understand the author’s notion and the background of the novel, many scholars analyze the character of Buck in many directions.
The analysis of Buck’s complex characters has a high artistic value. In this paper, in order to sort the order of the novel, I get the three main leads and analyze them. First, Buck’s sense of morality was declined, he is in line with Western philosophy that man’s nature at birth is bad. Second, Buck was a dog which can think by himself. Buck has his own life goals, no matter what the environment is Buck is optimistic and never slack. Third, Buck was filled with yearning for a new life and a longing for the loyalty and love for Thornton . This paper also draws on the conclusions of other scholars who analyzed Jack London to understand his views to the Laws of Sticks, as well as the impact of Marx’s writings and Darwin’s Law of Nature. In this paper, we analyze the character of Buck origin from the novel content tightly and combine the social trends of thought, the perspective is more creative.
