Abstract
Reader-reception theory originated in Germany in the 1960s, with representatives like Jauss and Iser. They oppose to the traditional thinking that authors are the most important, and believes that readers are the true reason of successful literary works. A piece of work can only be received by readers if it meets the psychological needs of readers.
By applying four main concepts of reader-reception theory, namely, readers, horizons of expectations, reconstructions of expectations and response inviting structure, this paper analyzes plots and expressions in The Da Vinci Code, trying to find out the reasons why it has captured millions of readers and become a world classic.
