German Joins China's Ancient Warriors
In 1974 archaeologists[考古学家] discovered legions[大批] of warriors made of terracotta[陶俑] who for two millennia[千年] had silently been protecting the tomb of an ancient Chinese emperor. Well over the weekend, a 26-year-old German art student tried to volunteer[当志愿兵]. Pablo Wendel, donned[穿上] a fake terracotta uniform, slipped past security guards and hid among the two thousand warriors and stood very still. Police saw him enter but it took them a full two-minutes to pick him out of the crowd of sculptures[雕像]. They let him go without charges but they did keep his uniform.

A German art student tried to join a Chinese dynasty’s army but he volunteered centuries too late. The 26-year-old man identified only as “Pabloor by his Chinese name “Ma Linmade a dusty brown suit of armor[盔甲], a tunic[束腰外衣] and a helmet[头盔], and attempted to blend in with the ancient warriors of the terracotta army in the western city of Xi’an.
Pablo entered the museum with his uniform packed in a suitcase. Once inside, he quickly changed into the outfit, jumped over a barrier[栅栏] and joined the soldiers, who stand in hundreds of rows. He blended in so well that security guards had difficulty finding him. Pablo has been obsessed[着迷] with the soldiers since his childhood. He reportedly said that he only planned to have a photo of himself taken standing near the museum’s excavation[开凿] pit.
“But when I saw the soldiers, I got too excited and just couldn’t stop myself from jumping into the pit,he said.
Since he didn’t damage the soldiers, Pablo was released[释放] after getting a lecture from the security officials, according to the police.
