摘要
美国华裔文学在美国乃至世界文学界都有着极为重要的地位。著名的美国华裔作者汤亭亭通过她的小说让更多地人了解了生活在美国大陆这片土地上的中国移民的生活，《女勇士》就是其代表作之一。《女勇士》一经出版，英语论文网站，就引发了文学界的广泛讨论。这些争论中，对著作中女性形象的理解是最引人注目的。
本文主要关注《女勇士》著作中的两类女性，并且着重略论多元文化背景下这些女性的形象特点,以及女性形象特点的发展变化过程。第一类女性指“迁移的女性”，即第一代移民。他们一直生活在中美文化矛盾中，这种矛盾也造就了她们性格中矛盾的地方。尽管中美两种文化都不可避免地对他们产生了作用，但是根深蒂固的传统思维导致她们无法完全接受美国文化。她们是生活在美国的彻彻底底的中国人。第二类女性指的是从小出生在美国的华裔女性，以著作的叙述者，汤亭亭为代表。她们一出生便接受着两种文化。中美文化的巨大异同使得她们陷入了文化的困境，导致她们对生活充满了困惑。幸运的是，经过多年的努力，她们逐渐成长为理想的华裔女性。她们自强，自立，并且找到了解决文化困境的措施。她们选择继承中国语言和传统文化，并且展示了她们独特的文化身份。她们最终找到了中美文化的平衡点，成为了真正的女勇士。
《女勇士》中的女性不仅仅是反应了少数几个人，而是整整两个时代的华裔女性。通过对这些女性形象进行略论，我们对华裔的世界以及那个时代的生活有了更加清晰的认识。

Abstract
Chinese American literature is an indispensable and important part in both American and world literature. As one of the most important Chinese American authors, Maxine Hong Kingston has contributed to the understanding of Chinese immigrants living in the United States through her excellent works. As one of her representatives, The Woman Warrior may be the most widely criticized work by all over the world among all the Chinese American works. Among the discussion, the understanding of the female images attracts much controversy.
This thesis mainly focuses on two types of women in The Woman Warrior and emphatically analyzes the image of these women under the multi-cultural background and the process of image transition. The first type is migratory women, the first generation of immigration. They are torturing by the conflicts of Chinese traditional culture and the western culture, which also led to the contradictions of their characters. Although Chinese and American culture both inevitably exerted influence on they, the deeply entrenched ways of thinking made it hard for immigrant woman to identified with American Culture. They are complete Chinese living on American land. The second type is America Born Chinese (ABC) women, represented by the narrator, Kingston herself. They have been educated in two cultures. The gap between Chinese and American culture makes them fall into the dilemma of culture and bring them confusion. Fortunately after years’ hard working, they become the ideal Chinese American, whose main characters are self-improvement and self-reliance. They find the final solution to the cultural dilemma. They choose to adhere to the Chinese language and traditional culture, show their unique cultural identity and finally found the balance point between Chinese and American culture. They are the real women warrior.
The women in The Woman Warrior does not reflect a few people, but two generations of Chinese American. By analysing the image of these women, we will have a much more clear understanding of the world of immigrants, as well as the life in that age.
