This thesis aims to suggest the effective methods of teaching and learning Korean collocation for Chinese native speakers. Since vocabulary is important for students to be able to speak languages, collocation also takes an important part when one speaks fluently and correctly. Therefore teaching collocation should be understood as one of the most important field in teaching Korean which helps students to reduce errors and to speak Korean more fluently. Thus, I examine the effective methods of teaching and studying about collocation and show the results with five chapters in this . This research focuses on Chinese students since they understand Korean vocabulary easier than other language users due to Chinese letters' influence in Korean vocabulary, however they are the ones who tend to misunderstand collocations in Korean language.
The first chapter shows the formal study of collocation and suggest a new definition of the concept of Korean collocation in the field of Korean language education. In the second chapter, analysis of Korean text books are examined and how the books apply the vocabulary is focused. For example, some text books includes words and collocation in one section, on the other hand some differentiate the words and collocation in separate sections. Also some books do not contain collocation at all. Then, the third chapter selects commonly used collocations in the Korean text books in order to give a survey to numbers of Chinese students. According to the survey, the lack of recognitions on collocations among Chinese students. Some section reveals 58.7% of the students answered wrongly which is then considered the highest incorrect question. All the five sections receives average 38.7% wrong answers by the students.
Finally, the result of survey invites the need of alternative teaching methods in Korean collocations and the final chapter also includes two models of class teaching plans on the base of the research.
Although the survey is performed by a mere 130 Chinese students due to the numbers of Chinese students living in Busan, this newly suggested methods need to be researched in further in order to be materialized in the textbook.
