In the history of Korean dramas, translated dramas entered Korea after the rise of new dramas. In the late 1970s, a time period preceding the foundation of the drama company 『Jakeun Shinhwa』, translated dramas were mainly performed and there were only a few drama companies that staged creative dramas at that time. The 1980s were marked by the beginning of the era of creative dramas in the art community and it was also a period when the Korean people suffered from social turmoil including Chun Doo-hwan's dictatorship and the Gwangju Uprising. Amid this social turmoil, the Korean theatrical community that had mainly performed translated dramas saw many theatrical people accepting a new drama style and expanding the area of the space of creation. In the late 1980's, there were a steady increase in the number of creative dramas performed in Korea. Over the 1990s, practical plans for the development of creative dramas began to be vigorously sought in the Korean theatrical community. The drama company 『Jakeun Shinhwa』 was established on July 25, 1986, as an association of five university drama clubs under the name "The Drama Club Jakeun Shinhwa." The drama company that celebrated its 30th anniversary of its foundation in 2016, succeeded the tradition of the Korean creative dramas and has steadily practiced it since its establishment. This study is intended to introduce the 30-year history of Jakeun Shinhwa's performances and activities and the programs planned in the drama company, while looking into the ideological goals achieved by the drama company in the Korean theatrical community. Currently, 『Jakeun Shinhwa』 is putting on dramas in various experimental programs such as Regular Performance, Making Our Own Dramas, and Free Stage. Therefore, this study will examine the background of such various performance programs, their theoretical definitions and the characteristics of the performances from an objective perspective while considering them in relation to their representative works the orientation of the dramas and performances that 『Jakeun Shinhwa』 has created and offered so far will be reviewed and the future direction will be presented. In the 1980s, 『Jakeun Shinhwa』 worked with the ideological goal of expanding the theatrical space, and to this end, it performed cafe tours. In the 1990s, it focused on attempting various creative methods in their theatrical activities. As for the drama performance called "the space of creation", 『Jakeun Shinhwa』 independently planned many programs so that all theatrical people including outside guests could participate in theatrical activities in various aspects. Since then, it has staged various genres of creative dramas and continued their theatrical activities.
