Most of the university students who currently use the university space wants to have space-oriented, rest and do works at same time, extension of knowledges in space. As university education gets higher development, the education changes interactively between students and professors. Now, university is recognized as a complex space on student-centered, not only for lectures. In addition, student-centered space allows forming a network between students, and support for students very closely. Recently, attempts have been made to improve the inside and outside space of the university campus, as use the internal space with the external space of the university campus also has a positive effects on students’ campus life and academic achievement. Therefore, the student-centered space is a needs-place where students can feel comfortable, safe and belonging within the campus, and really needs space for students. In this study, I aimed to find the meaning of the student-centered space according to the demands and changes of the times, and realized that the student-centered space in the university is not a place where students can stay, a place where the ability to infinitely extend individual possibilities beyond the meaning. So I will discuss how to improve the lobby space of library inside the university campus. In order to investigate the characteristics of lobby spaces in the university campus for student-centered space, researchers were able to classify and sort the four types of lobby spaces by four types of floor plans and elevation plans, based on previous studies and references, I could select four spatial features for the student-centered space in the university library and five subdivided characteristic elements (20 items in total). Based on the case studies and observations of the researchers, nine university libraries were selected as a case study space in Seoul. And I could get the results of the study with student-centered were obtained, by surveyed the satisfaction and preference of 191 students who actually use the university library. There are many examples of large-scale spaces in the Korean university library due to the expansion and enlargement. It appears type of lobby-centered and compromises with lobby and lounge for floor plans, bottom-up and horizontal lobby for elevations dominated the cases. The university library which consists of a vertically structured form with a rapid increase in the area through new construction and expansion, has lost the functioning and usability of the lobby space and has not used it as a surplus space. In the past, university libraries have been developing indiscriminately to cope with the increasing number of collections and students. However, the some of case study spaces have been changed through new constructions and remodeling to understand university library trends and listen to users' requirements since 2010s. And now the development direction of the university library for the student-centered space through the analysis of the researcher and the user analysis conducted in this study is as follows. First, the rest space in the university library should be expanded. Students who use university libraries consider rest as an important factor with to reading books, researching and learning in university libraries. Second, the breadth of activities should be extended for users who use university libraries. Third, the efficiency of individual and group learning activities should be strengthened. Fourth, cultural and artistic contents should be provided. Fifth, genuine communication should be have with users using university library. In this study, the researchers focused on the university library among the educational facilities that reflects rapidly in the age of society, culture, and education that changes fast. In addition, among the present and evolving process of the university library, which is a basic research to grasp the space for the student - centered space, and to suggest the basic plan for the future planning of the university library. As a basic research to understand the space factor of the lobby that the university library should have in the current and evolving process, it is suggested to provide the basic plan for the future planning of the university library will do.
