Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the validity and reliability of Korean version of Adherence of Refills and Medications Scale (ARMS-K) to assess medication adherence in Korean elderly. Methods: The Korean ARMS-K was developed through forward-backward translation technics. Internal consistency reliability and construct validity were calculated using IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 program. Two hundreds and forty two elderly with diabetes and hypertension participated to test ARMS-K in N city. Adherence of Medication was measured using Adherence of Refills and Medications Scale developed by Kriphalani et al., (2009). Results: Item-to-total correlations and exploratory factor analysis were investigated to test construct validity. Item 11 was removed because of low level of correlation with other items. Through principal componant analysis, three factors explained 64.3% of the variance. Three subscales were named as Adherence to Medications, Adherence to Refils, Adherence to Prescribed dose. Internal consistency was supported by Cronbach`s alpha = .83. Conclusion: The results of this exploratory study showed different factor structures compared to those of original Adherence of Refills and Medications Scale. The Korean ARMS-K had satisfactory construct validity and reliability. Thus it may be an appropriate for measuring medication adherence in Korean elderly.
