This research is to examine frequent errors found in Korean education for Vietnamese marriage-based female immigrants. Vietnamese speakers’Korean pronunciation is interrupted by Vietnamese phonological system. This study approaches the idea that frequent errors occurring to language learners are based on the similarities and differences between the learners’mother tongue and the target language. Hereupon the pronunciation errors of Vietnamese speakers are expected from the interference of the phonological systems of Korean and Vietnamese. Also, errors are observed from the learners who has been in Korea about 1 year, all of whom are marriage-based female immigrants from North Vietnam. This analysis is figuring out acoustical characteristics with “Praat”,and Korean phonemes recognized by Vietnamese speakers. This study helps Vietnamese speakers understand Korean consonant pronunciation, seeking the method of efficient pronunciation education. Therefore the aim of this study is to build up basic data about Korean consonant pronunciation education for Vietnamese speakers. At chapter 1, we will emphasize the necessity of Korean pronunciation education to overcome language barrier in multi-cultural society, and look into preceding studies about Korean education for Vietnamese speakers. At chapter 2, we will predict the Korean pronunciation of Vietnamese speakers by comparing phonetic systems of Korean and Vietnamese, and investigate the phonological characteristics of Vietnamese and Chinese as well as the syllable structure of Vietnamese and Korean separately. At chapter 3, we will check the state of errors in Korean consonant pronunciation on the spot. With Praat, we will analyze the characteristics of how ‘lenis, fortis, and aspirated consonants’ are differentiated. Through this way, we will compare the phonological systems of Korean and Vietnamese to see the predicted pronunciation, current state of Vietnamese speakers’ pronunciation, and the relation of Korean consonants and phonemes with those recognized by Vietnamese speakers. Also, among frequent errors, we will inspect the state of coda /ㄹ/[l], /ㄱ/[k] and /ㅇ/[ŋ] pronunciation. At chapter 4, according to the analytical results of the pronunciation errors by Vietnames e speakers, we will present a teaching method for‘lenis, fortis, and aspirated consonants’pronunciation. 박진원(2001) stated Korean ‘lenis and fortis’ pronunciation education for Chinese learners shows higher satisfaction when they were referred to Chinese tones as a method. In this study, we have sought for teaching method using Vietnamese tones for Korean consonant pronunciation education of Vietnamese speakers. Also, we presented a method of teaching them to pronounce coda /ㄹ/, coda /ㄱ/, /ㅇ/ correctly. And coda /ㄹ/ in Korean exists in Vietnamese onset, so Vietnamese speakers' mother tongue could be utilized in positive way. At last, I suggested a way to solve the interruption problem of Vietnamese double closure in pronouncing codas /ㄱ/, /ㅇ/ . At chapter 5, in conclusion, we summarize the important details as mentioned above, and present the shortcomings and further challenges of this study.
