A Contrastive Study on ‘kada’ in Korean and ‘qu’ in Chinese

Korean verb ‘kada’ and Chinese verb ‘qu’ is both one of the most basic verbs which is used frequently. It is also one of the words Korean learners and Chinese learners have to learn in the very beginning .
However, due to the different cultural and ways of thinking in Korea and China, there are a lot of differences in meaning and usage between the two words. So it is not easy to choose a appropriate word to the primary learners but easy to make some mistakes.
The purpose of this study is through the comparative analysis to find out the similarities and differences of the two verbs on semantics and syntax. The result of this study will be very helpful for language learners and also can be used as a teaching material in foreign language education .
The first chapter introduces the research objectives, existing research results and methods of research. At the same time, point out that examples are mainly selected from three representative dictionaries to analyze the meaning and structure features between the two verbs.
The second chapter is the contrast on prototype meaning and extend meaning between the two verbs. The analysis results can be summarized as follows: about the prototype meaning, they have some thing in common, for example, they own the same meaning people move from one place to another place. At the same time, there are some different points, for example, ‘kada’ can be connected with a traffic nouns directly, but ‘qu’ has not this kind of usage, if it wants to indicate means of transportation. it need the help of other verbs.
In addition, There are a lot of similarities and differences between extended meanings. According to the content of a moving and the subject of a moving, both of the two verbs express not only the movement of position but also the movement of time and state. in the third chapter, the grammatical structures of the two verbs are compared and analyzed. According to the grammatical structure of Korean and Chinese, ‘kada’ is divided into six sentence types and ‘qu’ is divided into eight sentence types. Five of the sentence types is in common and two is special.
Beyond that, nouns appearing at the subject and object position have a lot of things in common, and also have many differences. For example, the noun appears at the position of the subject in ‘qu’, can be a actors of action. But ‘kada’ has no such usage. Another example, personal nouns appear at object position have the form but play different roles in two verbs. In sentence of ‘kada’, the personal noun is possible to play the role of goal, by contrast, in sentence of ‘qu’, the personal noun means the agent. More example, some noun like ‘mountain road’, ‘rainy road’ can appear in the sentence of ‘kada’, but these nouns can not appear in sentence of ‘qu’.
From what's mentioned above, we raw a conclusion that there are many different reasons causing this phenomenon. Not only the differences in culture and way of thinking between the two countries, but also the grammatical structure differences between the two languages.
