The purposes of this study are examine the patterns of errors related to relative tense in adnominal clauses among Chinese Korean language learners and propose a couple of educational plans based on the results.
Today there are various researches on the error analysis of or educational plans for adnominal word endings for Chinese Korean language learners, but there is a shortage of research on the patterns of learners' perceptions or errors in relation to relative tense in adnominal clauses.
Recognizing such a shortage, the study categorized the relative tense cases in adnominal clauses into the past, present, and future tense according to the tense of the main clause. A survey was taken with the scope limited to adnominal clauses whose predicates were either verbs or adjectives. Based on the analysis results of the findings, the investigator proposed a couple of educational plans.
The study is significant in that it only dealt with relative tense in adnominal clauses while most of the previous studies on the tense of adnominal clauses focused on the usage of adnominal word endings. In current Korean education in which adnominal word endings are taught only in absolute tense, the study claims its significance by raising problems with the interpretations of relative tense, examining the understanding and error patterns of learners with regard to relative tense, and highlighting the need for relative tense education.
