With the development of teaching Chinese as a foreign language education, depending on the capacity of an entity as a foreign demand for Chinese teachers has grown sharply. As a teacher who teaches Chinese as a foreign language, when you teach Chinese and Chinese culture you need to have inherent good attitude, professional knowledge and skills to be able to achieve a high performance look.
For the purpose of this research, the researcher establishes the following research questions.
First, what kind of competences should the teachers who teach Chinese as a foreign language have?
Second, What is the difference between the degree of competency that teachers should have and the competency levels teachers on?
Third, What are the main causes of retaining competency for the teachers teaching Chinese as a foreign language?
To study the subjects and to achieve this goal, as a researcher researched the teachers in 17 Confucius Academy in South Korea. The survey, approach to the six personal background like sex, age, educational background, teaching experience, specialized subject.
This study to solve the problems of previous studies and on-site consultation with teachers who work in the Chinese as a foreign language teachers were drawn competencies that must be met firstly. That based on this research tool SPSS 19.0 program. And to survey the difference between the degree of competency which teachers have and the competency levels teachers on subordinate groups T-test was used. To raise the teachers' competence researcher used regression analysis and chi-square test.
The results of the study are as follows:
First, teachers teaching Chinese as a foreign language need to have two kinds of competencies. One is for classes, and the other one is for out of classes. They thought that competencies for classes are more important than the competencies out of classes. The kind of competency in class is important to the 4.34 level, and out of class is 3.95, higher than average 3.50, so every sub-element of competency must be needed for the teachers.
Second, through the first result of this study, the teachers' current competence level for classes is 3.63 and for out classes is 3.51. Statistically significant difference in any capacity was seen except for the 'general office skills'.
Third, the factors which are involved to keeping the teachers' competency are as follows:
1) The education or training Chinese as a foreign language teachers received was divided into three steps. The first step is University (graduate) and there were significant differences between groups in teachers' education level and majors.
2) Before the teachers dispatched to foreign countries, they have received training in Hanban. There was the difference between the groups in Teaching experience about the level of Hanban training's help, there was also statistical significant difference be seen in education and dispatching's way about the important point for selection and dispatch.
3) the Confucius Institute to offer training for teachers that helps much for teachers, but there was a statistically significant difference be seen in education and teaching experience. And about the Confucius Institute's problem, there was a significant difference between groups divided by age. They have different views as 'lack of textbook's practical realities' as so on.
