The increase in the number of Married migrant women today is a social issue and interest in these women is higher than ever before. This study is about how Married migrant women utilize the TV, a topic that has never been discusses in relation to the use of media. Especially, among other media, the motivation and of TV use and how it is used were also observed. First, compared to the 131 minutes of TV viewing for an average Korean citizen, Married migrant women ed approximately 229.8 minutes which is significantly high. The motivation for their TV use was also observed. The result, a total of 6 motives were found and the TV was being used for learning the Korean language, adjusting to the Korean culture, influence of the Korean wave, nostalgia for homeland, occupying time, to cope with loneliness, and as a social means. Based on the above result, difference between TV use motivation and gratification level of Married migrant women were observed. The result showed that gratification level improved after watching TV from before watching and occupying time, coping with loneliness, and social means showed most significant differences. In Married migrant women, the effect of education level, level of proficiency in Korean, number of viewing hours, emotional loneliness, and nostalgia on level of gratification in TV were observed. The result found number of viewing hours, loneliness, and nostalgia to affect level of gratification. The higher the number of viewing hours the higher was the level of gratification, and the deeper the loneliness and nostalgia, the higher was the level of gratification in TV viewing. Differences in the level of gratification in TV programs that showcase them based on their proficiency in the Korean language were observed. The result found that the higher the proficiency in the language, the higher was the level of gratification. Also, among 196 respondents, 100 (41.8%) individuals have positive thoughts towards TV programs that showcase their life. As the biggest problem faced by Married migrant women was found to be communication as found through motivation for using television, their primary motivation is for learning Korean and adjusting to the culture. This shows that TV is an important means that allows Married migrant women continue their life in Korea. From this perspective more studies on television that is frequently used by Married migrant women are needed. |
