There are many drastic social changes happening in Korea as Korea faces the era of Global Village. However, one of the prominent social changes is the view on the interracial marriage in Korean society. According to statistic bureau of Korea in 2008, since 1990, there has been steady increase of interracial marriage, and more than 10,000 of interracial marriages ed in 1995. In 2003, there were 25,658 interracial marriage cases, and there were tremendous amount of interracial marriage cases ed as 38,491.
There are also many by-product problems rising from these interracial marriage families, and the differences of their diet habits is one of these problems. It is not easy to find the common ground of their diet habits in shortly for two different people from two different cultural backgrounds because their diet habits have been formed through their cultural backgrounds for a long time.
At the moment, there are not enough researches conducted about their diet habits of many interracial families in Korea. For this reason, the research need to be made on this issue in substance, and this issue should be centered on our study.
Due to language barrier, there were many obstacles to communicate each other when questionnaires were explained, supplied, and collected. However, most of surveyed families complied to answer these questionnaires faithfully. Diet habits are not easy to be changed in a few years because they have been fixedly formed since a long time ago. However, many interracially married females are trying greatly to adopt Korean diets which are their spouse’s traditional diets.
Even though their language barriers, they tend to study for Korean culture individually, and they have been assimilated to Korean culture a little by a little.
Korean government is enforcing the law of supporting multi-racial families, and for doing this, it tries to have multi-racial families adopted better and faster way in Korean society. In rapid adaptation of these families could bring a lot of benefits to the nation, and also surely entitle them with peace and happiness.
Most important thing is their protections to these interracial spouses from their own families. All the family members need to understand, and adopt the differences of cultural backgrounds tremendously. Absolute adaptation of Korean culture should be avoided. Female immigrants also need to have their will to adapt a new culture, and change their cultural backgrounds as well.
By proceeding this study, even if the pragmatic research has conducted until now, there was a limitation to analyze the findings due to limit of the place such as Busan area, and the time during the research period. Due to lack of study models and hypothesis set beforehand, it was too difficult to infer proper results to our study. For this reason, it was not easy to analyze the result findings because of higher deviated finding results.
By overcoming the limitations of this research, the better planned research should be done on the interracial married immigrants who are expected to increase more for the future. For this research results could contribute to bring out the solutions in order to reduce the divorce rates of these interracial married couples in our society, and also contribute to bring the happiness and proper identity setup for the 2nd generation of these multi-racial families. Hopefully, these will contribute to make up the healthier and propound society overall.
