Boryeong Chungcheong Suyeongseong was the site of Chungcheong Suyeong which was one of three Suyeong (major naval headquarter) during the Joseon Dynasty and it preserves the original form of the Suyeong castle in the Joseon Dynasty in Korea. Chungcheong Suyeong have played many important roles for the country, protecting the Chungcheong coast from Japanese pirates, escorting transport ships and constructing battleships for 500 years during Joseon Dynasty period. Boryeong Chungcheong Suyeongseong is a place where were many historical and cultural events as well as functions as military facilities. After the abandonment in 1895, the status of Chungcheong Suyeongseong and historical-cultural values have gradually been forgotten as the years have passed. In this study, the value of Boryeong Chungcheong Suyeongseong is newly identified based on historical resources and classfied them into three values as military facilities, humanistic value and literary value.
