Yeongnam has 72 main towns, which means the most in number among 8 do in Joseon Dynasty. Administration, economy and culture in Yoengnam are developed based on rich supplies. In such circumstances, Gyobang dance which are entertained by ruling class is improved as a professional art. Banquets for Chinese ambassador are often held in Gwansoe area. The data on the record of banquets and Gyobang are quite a lot. In the mean time, there are banquets for Joseon delegation since Yoengnam is part of their route. However, researches on dance are not sufficient compared to culture and history about the delegation. The study method is to review Gyobang culture and types of banquets in Yoengnam from historical books, local s, collections of writing works, travel s, books, journal etc. For the stereoscopic view on Gyobang dance and banquets, materials such as maps, drawings, paintings are also examined. Interviews with doyen are conducted to get vivid testimony which can be a connection to the past and present. There used to be Gyobang in Daegu, Andong, Miryang, Gyeongju and Dongrae. Banquets are often held in those areas since they are the main routes for Joseon delegation. Sangju, Jinju, Gimhae, and Tongyeong in Goseonggun has Gyobang in Yeongnam right-do area. Except for those occasions, there were many small banquets were held for boating, sightseeing, excursion to Nujeong hosted by the governor of the town. Banquets in Yeongnam show various factors of Gyobang culture. It appeared to be united form with Gyobang ceremony procedure, Gyobang music, Gyobang dance, Gyobang clothing, and Gyobang cuisine. But it was Gyobang dance that lighted up the banquet's formality and atmosphere. Gyobang dance in Yeongnam included factors of the court's finest dance and local folk dance. Gyobang dances including factors of court's are Geommu, Pogurak, Cheoyoungmu, Jeongja, Abak, Hyangbal, Jumu, Bando, Hangmu and Chomu. But, Gyobang dance that contained factors from court had a difference from folk dance, like what the dance is called, and process of progress. Whangchangmu and Mudong are Gyobang dance that has lots of folk dance's character. Rather than large scale banquet such as Banquet for Joseon Delegation in Yeongnam left-do, Gyobang dance was performed in the official events hosed by the governor in Yoengnam right-do. Gyobang dances that contain factors of court in Yeongnam right-do are Geommu, Yukwhadae, Yeonwhadae, Heonbando, Pogurak, Gomu, Abakmu, Hyangbalmu, Cheoyounggamu, Seonak, Hangjangmu, and so on. This Gyobang dance, like other Yeongnam left-do‘s Yeongnam dance, was also sent down to each Gyobang by Seonsanggi. Yeongnam right-do‘s Gyobang dance is similar to court dance, in that how the dance is go by, and what the dance is called. On the contrary, Seungmu, Sugeonmu, Uiambyeoljaegamu have much of the character of the folk dance in Yeongnam right-do. The features of Yeongnam Gyobang dance can be concretely understand by the motion of the dance, music and the places where it is performed. Gyobang dance had been compiled from many of Gyobang dance around Yeongnam in the banquets for delegation and ambassadors. Thus, there were many polished and sophisticated motions because they had adopted many new techniques in the dance motion. They had the dance's name different from court dance showing the characteristic of Yeongnam left-do. Yeongnam right-do was an area that local governor had a powerful influence. Gyobang dance in Yeongnam right-do tends to accept the court dance's process and form intactly. However, Gyobang dance that had the characteristic of folk dance was affected by local culture a lot in Yeongnam right-do.More dancing implement and proceedings appeared in Yeongnam right-do compared to that of Yeongnam left-do. Yeongnam Gyobang dance‘s accompaniment was usually Samhyeonyukgak. Dance that had military honors ceremony, however, had additional Chwita accompaniment. Cases that contained singing with the dance were found more in Yeongnam right-do than Yeongnam left-do. Court dance's floor was limited as a particular place called Jeonjeong, but floors for Yeongnam Gyobang dance are daily life space such as government office’s front yard, Daecheong, Nujeong, or on the boat. Such a various daily life's space had formed Yeongnam Gyobang dance‘s local characteristic. Yeongnam is now the area that have the most Gyobang dances, which are being handed down so far.
