This examines magnificent, delicate and unique metal relics in the Baekje period (18B.C.-A.D. 660), one of the Three Kingdoms Period of ancient Korea and seeks ways to apply them to contemporary jewelries. At the same time, it describes research, which expands philosophical ideas of Baekje people who pursued esthetic knowledge and beauty, as well indicated by various decoration techniques from Baekje metal relics. Korea boasts a long cultural history of more than 5000 years and especially, Baekje has very rich cultural assets. Baekje also created various and remarkable relics. Since the Baekje historic area (around Gongsanseong Fortress and Mireuksa Temple Site in Gongju) has beendesignated as a USCO World Cultural Heritage Site in July 2015 along with valuable Baekje relics, we can see that an increasing number of active studies about Baekjeculture have been carrying out. Unlike jewelries in the Goguryeo and Sillaperiod, Baekje jewelries were influenced by Southern Dynasties culture during Woongjin and Sabi eriod through active exchanges with current China thanks to geographical strengths, sosophisticated decoration culture, elegant patterns and design were developed. In this way, Baekje created a new culture and unique style which can be only seen in Baekje by adopting Southern Dynasties culture and developing it in its own way. Also, it spread its culture to Japan and Gaya, so it seems to have played a significant role in forming a common culture of East Asia in ancient times. I firmly believe that Metal jewelries in the Baekje period provides the highest level of aesthetic expression in the world among aesthetic expressions of humans that show beauty through their modeling and patterns. Also, they have an advantage that they are familiar with modern people because they present unique features of the orean people which are austereness and moderation. In this sense, I focused on introducing Baekje culture to the world by analyzing formative characteristics, symbolism of patterns, manufacturing techniques and finding characteristics of Baekje metal jewelries (kwan, kwanmo, necklace, bracelet, chignon ornament, gilt-bronze shoes and etc.) In this , the Introduction explains the scope and methods of research based on advanced research and references on theoretical background of Baekje culture. The second chapter describesresearch onthe cultural background of the Baekje period and periodic characteristics of Baekje metal relics and also it provides the concept and characteristics of metal jewelries by chronologically classifying various kinds of metal relics and manufacturing techniques used in metal jewelries through references and relics in museums. The third chapter shows modeling analysis of Baekje jewelries focused on the excellency of modeling of Baekje metal jewelries by utilizing data collection and preceding s for modeling analysis of Baekje metal relics based on design principles. The fourth chapter is about manufacturing a new jewelry by applying design, which is based on quite simple manufacturing techniques including forging techniques and metal carving techniques and 3D programs through modeling analysis of Baekje metal relics, to other pieces of work. Likewise, Baekje had a glorious artistic and cultural history, but not many relics which can support historic data have been found to this day, so more research on Baekje culture was needed. However, thanks to the designation ofthe Baekje historic area as a USCO World Cultural Heritage Site, Baekje culture received the spotlight, and once again, I can feel that more active research is being carried out on Baekje culture. Due to rapid development of science amid industrialization and culturalcontents changing people’s views, the designation of USCO World Heritage Site shows an increased interest in Baekje culture. Against this backdrop, I, as a researcher, have a huge interest in this culture and highly appreciates the value of Baekje’s cultural heritages, so I am committed to studying Baekje’s cultural heritages. When we collect data about relics, we can see that Korea is indeed a cultural powerhouse with rich cultural resources. In particular, I want to recognize artistic and life values of Baekje people through communication and identification between past and present by utilizing forms and patterns of Baekje metal relics and then reconfigure forms and patterns through modeling analysis of metal relics to study new jewelry techniques that can draw attention of modern people. Furthermore, by producing new techniques and tools in a modern way and applying them to new jewelry design, this study aims to express the value of Baekje’s cultural heritages and serves as a momentum for thedevelopment of Korea’s own unique jewelry.
