The purposes of this study were to verify the appearance-liking effect that people likes physically attractive person and the halo effect that people thinks physically attractive person has many positive characteristics as well. Moreover, it is tested the matching phenomenon that people is more likely to have relationships with someone who is considered to have similar physical attractiveness. A total of 72 college students were participated in an experiment. The results of this study are as follows. First, the main effect of appearance on liking was statistically significant. The subjects liked physically attractive persons more than non-attractive persons. Second, there was a significant interaction effect on liking between other’s level of appearance and the perceiver’s own level of appearance. It implied matching phenomenon. Third, the main effect of appearance on evaluation of personal characteristics was statistically significant. Thus, halo effect of appearance was verified. Fourth, contrary to hypothesis, there was no significant interaction effect on evaluation of personal characteristics between other’s level of appearance and perceiver’s own level of appearance. Fifth, the subjects liked non-attractive same sex person more than non-attractive opposite sex persons. However, there was no significant difference on liking between physically attractive person who had same sex and opposite sex. Sixth, there was no significant interaction effect on evaluation of personal characteristics between other’s level of appearance and same/opposite sex.
