This study examines the job satisfaction of police investigators before and after the introduction of the police investigation specialization. In particular, this study considers job condition, welfare, organization culture, promotion, reward, punishment, wage and bonus, communication with bosses, cooperation system among colleagues etc. in search of the desired direction of police investigation specialization for Korean police investigators. This study analyzes the job satisfaction of police investigators with respect to sociology of population and the job status of each officer. The findings are as follows: First, by taking a look at the job satisfaction differences before and after the police investigation specialization was introduced, the workload and the role conflicts variables do not show any differences. However, organization aspect, job aspect, and environment aspect show a lot of differences. Especially in the organization aspect, the job satisfaction increase was high in cooperative participation, wage, reward and punishment. The job satisfaction increase was high in job range, role clarification, job interest, and social recognition. With respect to environment, the job satisfaction increase was very high in the cooperation and closeness among colleagues, management skills on the officers, welfare and job conditions. This result is caused by considering the jobs of the departments and adjusting overloading and irregular job environment in terms of the organization aspect when the police investigation specialization was introduced. The organization of the police investigators is divided into general, investigation, security and special, and the investigation directing line is formed by the officers who completed the investigation direction course. It was assumed that the job satisfaction increase occurred because the job conditions were improved: the welfare is strengthened; the investigation budget was realistically increased; a variety of investigating device was modernized. However, this study finds the job satisfaction increase did not occur since there were no continuous efforts on the improvement of unclear divisions of work and removal of role conflicts even after the police investigation specialization was introduced as shown in the previous study results. Second, this study finds there was no difference in the job satisfaction with respect to the sociology of population. Though there exists weak differences in some categories such as job interest, relationship with bosses and people, competition in good faith with colleagues etc. depending on age, academic ability and working area. However, Most of variables in job aspect and job environment aspect showed a lot of differences depending on the work period and job entering course. Among them, there were differences in the variables such as promotion, wage, job interest, social recognition, role conflicts, supervision of bosses, relationship with bosses, welfare, competition in good faith with colleagues, communication with bosses. Third, this study finds the communication with bosses increased toward the better status after the police investigation specialization was introduced, and the 26% of the job-in-charge activity(Before police investigation specialization 27.2%, After 53.9%) got smoother. Regarding the reorganization of police, people who feel the necessity of the reorganization are rather increased(Before 21.2%, After 42.6%) after the police investigation specialization was introduced. In this regard, the job satisfaction in terms of organization should be improved in the systematic aspect. The pride as a police officer was increased(Before 36.4%, After 58.7%) after the police investigation specialization was introduced. On the degree of not wanting to go to work is decreased after the introduction of the police investigation specialization. The characteristic structure of police after the police investigation specialization was introduced was similar, but the rate of optimistic police officers was highly increased after the introduction of the police investigation specialization. In the job satisfaction pursuant to the job status, it seems that promotion and organization are comparatively correlated to each other. The job satisfaction pursuant to promotion as a police officer was lower for the person who has low pride and self-esteem; however, regarding wage, both high-ranked officers and low-ranked officers thought that wage was very important factor for their job satisfaction. Subsequently, the job satisfaction pursuant to reward and punishment is greater for a person with high pride and self-esteem. About 17.4% of the surveyed police officers did not want to go to work, 38.1% was positive on going to work, and the rest 44.54% was in between the above two cases. Going to work was not highly correlated to the wage; instead, it was highly correlated to the communication with bosses. Especially, after the introduction of the police investigation specialization, it is remarkable that the level of feeling role conflicts pursuant the characteristic was decreased a lot. The job satisfaction was polarized to the satisfied side and the unsatisfied side comparing to the satisfaction before the introduction of the police investigation specialization according to the close look on the job satisfaction in each characteristic type after the introduction of the police investigation specialization.
