Objectives: Korean society is rapidly changing into multi-cultural one but there is little research that examines the specific relationship between the cultural adaptation stress of foreign residents in Korea and their life quality. This research looks into such relationship that is found among a group of Bangladeshi adults. Methods: Two hundred Bangladeshi adults who reside in Seoul and Gyeonggi regions are selected to respond to the questionnaire that looks into the cultural adaptation stress and its general features. This questionnaire is translated into the Bengali language. The questionnaire which is used to examine quality of life is an original Bengali version whose reliability and validity has been tested. Results: The multivariate analysis finds that the major elements which cause cultural adaptation stress include longevity of residence, Korean language fluency level, and the kind of jobs. There is a significant result (p=0.046) which informs that the longer they reside in Korea, the less stress they undergo. There is a significant difference in that cultural adaptation stress varies according to the Korean language fluency level(p=0.029), and difference also in the relationship between cultural adaptation stress and the kind of job(p=0.003). The variables for the quality of life includes the level of education and the duration of stay in Korea: the higher the level of education, the higher the quality of life (p=0.019), and the longer the stay in Korea, the higher the quality of life (p=0.019). It shows a significant correlation (p<0.001) between the cultural adaptation stress and life quality: the multivariate analysis finds that the higher the stress of cultural adaptation, the lower the quality of life. Conclusions: This research s that the higher the stress of cultural adaptation is, the lower the quality of life among Bangladeshi adults who reside in Seoul and Gyeonggi province is. Further study is recommended to look into the ways that could reduce cultural adaptation stress among foreign residents in Korea and elevate their life quality.
