Modern society in which diverse values coexist is being appeared new concepts through the convergence with a collapse in a genre-based boundary. Even in the fashion field of swiftly reflecting a flow of the rapidly-changing period, the genre deconstruction phenomenon positioned as a major factor of a change. Even out of it, the appearance in infra fashion brought up a new conversation topic to a socio-cultural idea with dissolving a form of wearing a costume, which has been maintained for a long time. Historically, the movement of the infra fashion phenomenon was begun from chemise in Marie Antoinette who is the wife of Louis XVI. But the period that infra fashion was accepted as one of a fashion genre to the public can be said to be following the late 1980s. As Madonna officially appeared in 1990 with wearing cone bra at the World Tour Concert that Jean Paul Gaultier designed, the possibility was suggested that underwear can be worn with being revealed outwardly, not the clothing of being hidden any more. The genre deconstruction, which was shown in fashion, led to the convergence of covering the general construction fields of art including fine arts, architecture and craft externally, as well as an internal change. Even out of it, the combination of fashion and fine arts has been continued the steady development through a mutual exchange for a long time. In this aspect, optical art has been the origin of continuous inspiration to fashion designers. Op-art, which was begun from the 1960s, causes a visual-perceptual optical illusion of a viewer, who looks at an image through the use of a geometrical form including point, line, to plane, the color contrast and mixture. A characteristic of this op-art led to the optical illusion effect in a body silhouette with being applied chiefly to textile design in fashion design. The purpose of this study is to develop an originative fashion design work applying this through considering op-art and infra fashion and eliciting simplicity, attention and scalability as three features of op-art. Furthermore, there is a significance of the research in developing a fashion design work that has an aesthetic value applying an art work to fashion. A method of this study was made with a documentary consideration and a case analysis based on documentary data, previous researches, fashion magazines, collection materials, art works, and internet data in relation to op-art and infra fashion. A case analysis was made on fashion design applying overseas collections and magazines based on the characteristics, which were drawn on the basis of the theoretical consideration. Based on this, 6 sets of the infra fashion design works applying a characteristic of op-art were made. The contents of this study are as follows. The Introduction in Chapter Ⅰ was described a research objective & significance, and a research method & scope, and was proposed directionality of the whole research. Chapter Ⅱ was figured out a concept and history of optical art through a theoretical consideration, was selected Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, and Josef Albers as the representative artists, and then was examined about their works. A characteristic of op-art through a previous research was arranged by drawing three features in the simplicity caused by a geometrical form, the attention caused by color, and the scalability caused by optical illusion. The infra fashion was looked for a concept and history and was arranged a kind of infra fashion. Through a previous research, totally three characteristics were arranged in the sensuality through exposure, the deconstruction through a transfer of wearing, and the sexual perversion through exaggeration. Chapter Ⅲ was analyzed the infra fashion works, which appeared in fashion collection, based on simplicity, attention and scalability that are three aesthetic characteristics of op-art. Chapter Ⅳ was suggested an originative infra fashion design work applying a characteristic of op-art based on the above researches. A work was composed of totally 6 pieces by reflecting simplicity, attention and scalability. Chapter Ⅴ was arranged a theoretical consideration on op-art and infra fashion, was made a conclusion on a work, and was presented an opinion about a research that will be continued henceforth. The following are the characteristics of infra fashion, which were figured out through the above process. The sensuality through exposure emphasized a woman's voluptuous beauty with disclosing some parts of the underwear or the body through clothes. The deconstruction through a transfer of wearing dismantled a form of a costume, which has been maintained for a long time, through putting it on as outer clothing itself without hiding underwear underneath the attire any more. The sexual perversion through exaggeration regarded it as one of perversion, which feels sexual preoccupation about exaggerating a woman's specific body region related to a sexual element. The following are the formative characteristics that were elicited through the theoretical analysis on op-art. The simplicity based on a geometrical form merely expressed the op-art image by using a geometrical form as the basic component of a screen. As for the attention caused by color, the color contrast and mixture lead to being seen a tone more clearly or to taking note of an image while the mixed colors in retina are seen like another color. The scalability caused by optical illusion leads to feeling that the two-dimensional plane is as if being extended into the three-dimensional space through a viewer's visual-perceptual optical illusion. The infra fashion design work was made by applying this characteristic of op-art. The composition of a work was made with 6 pieces of the works applying 3 characteristics in simplicity, attention and scalability. With putting a value in what the infra fashion is interpreted from diverse perspectives in modern fashion and becomes the origin of inspiration to a number of fashion designers, this study was expressed an art work by reflecting a design element. The development in the infra fashion design applying optical art has a significance in being capable of supplementing a flaw of human body and of having a new idea and expression beyond a limitation of design through optical art of causing optical illusion. A continuous research is expected to be possibly carried out down the road.
