Abstract As the number of multi-cultural families increases, there are more studies on multi-cultural mothers and children. Several works prove that a multi-cultural mother has conflicts with her husband because of communication gaps, culture gaps, and economic difficulties. However, it is not easy for her to receive adequate social support because she does not have a strong social support environment. Therefore, the mother’s problems can negatively affect her child, particularly the child's stress level. Based on existing research, this study examines how much a multi-cultural mother's social support environment and conflicts with her husband affect the child's stress levels compared to that of a normal family. The subjects involved two groups: 32 multi-cultural mothers and 32 children residing in Ulsan, and 40 normal family mothers and 40 children. To measure the conflict between the husband and wife, this study uses a marital conflict scale. A social support scale and child’s daily stress scale are also employed. This study uses SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 24.0 programs to analyze the data. The process is as follows: First, an independent sample t-test is conducted to check the difference between the two groups in the conflicts between husband and wife, the mother's social support environment, and the child's daily stress level. Second, this study conducts a Pearson product moment correlation to analyze the correlations among the conflicts between husband and wife, the mother's social support environment, and the child's daily stress level. Third, this study conducts a simple regression to analyze whether the conflicts between husband and wife and the mother's social support environment affect the child's daily stress level in both groups. The research questions studied are as follows: 1. Do the conflicts between husband and wife and the mother's social support environment affect the child's daily stress level in both groups? 1-1. Is there a difference in the conflicts between husband and wife between the two groups? 1-2. Is there a difference in the mother's social support environment between the two groups? 1-3. Is there a difference in the child's daily stress level between the two groups? 2. What is the correlation among the conflicts between husband and wife, the mother's social support environment, and the child's daily stress level? 3. How much do the conflicts between husband and wife and the mother's social support environment affect the child's daily stress level in the two groups? 3-1. How much the conflict between husband and wife and the mother's social support environment from multi-cultural family affect the child's daily stress? 3-2. How much the conflict between husband and wife and the mother's social support environment from normal family affect the child's daily stress? The major findings of this study are as follows: First, the of the conflicts between husband and wife in multi-cultural families is higher than that in normal families. Moreover, the value of multi-cultural social support environments is less than that of the normal families. Finally, multi-cultural children have a higher score in daily stress levels than normal family children. However, the value is not statistically significant. Second, this study found that multi-cultural families' conflicts between husband and wife do not have correlations with the mothers’ social support environments. However, affects the children's daily stress levels, especially anxiety and frustration. On the other hand, normal families’ conflicts between husband and wife negatively affect the mothers’ social support environments. However, it positively affects the children's daily stress levels, especially anxiety and frustration. Finally, social support environments do not affect the children's daily stress levels in both groups. Third, the conflicts between husband and wife in both groups negatively affect the children's daily stress, and the value is statistically significant. However, the mothers’ social support environments do not affect the children's daily stress levels in both groups. Here, in this result, the mother's social support environment from normal family does affect the child's daily stress through the conflict between husband and wife. This study has some limitations. Since the it can not be generalized. And this study surveyed interviewees asking them about their conflict between husband and wife and their social support environment. Accordingly, these surveys could make them reply passively. Furthermore, only the relationship between conflicts between husband and wife and the children's daily stress levels can be explained. However, this study is significant because it has a new approach; it compares the mothers’ social support environments of the two groups. It also confirms that there is no significant difference in the children's daily stress levels between the two groups. Finally, this study has practical implications in policy-making; the government should increase the multi-cultural family mothers’ social support environments. Key words: multi-cultural family, conflicts between husband and wife, social support environment, child's daily stress level
