In terms of Scandinavian design trends, it is not suddenly began to receive attention in Korean furniture market. In fact, the Scandinavian design trends has gotten attention in Korean market since few decades. Recently, Scandinavian furniture companies advanced to Korean domestic market and it has started getting remarkable attention to Korean market. Even though, Scandinavian design is somewhat unfamiliar to Korean market, but we have started to take advantage of new design trend and apply to fashion, fabrics, furniture, etc. household goods. The purpose of this article is the interpretation of Scandinavian design trend which is part of basic strategic for modern designers. Also, by analyzing of Danish chair design which is achieved by furniture designer Arne Jacobsen, I tried to access to the design material and shape as the basis for strategic element of this new trends. This article analyzed the characteristics of the Arne Jacobsen‘s chairs design by materials and shape. The material of the chair is consisted of the natural Denmark timber wood and was used as a one-piece body with different color for the backrest and the seat plate. The wood texture delivers worm feeling and was applied with natural color and intense primary colors. In terms of the chair which is covered with leather and fabric, it gives diversity by coating a variety of colors in the same form. Legs of the chair was to be suitable for mass production by using molded plywood and steel pipe. However, aluminum legs gives luxury to leather and fabric chairs. The shape of chair has simple and reasonable beauty and looks suitable for the mass production by minimizing material usage. In addition, a tendency which visualize consistent image is shown by giving repeated design motifs to the base of a simple chair design. As an expression of Danish nature, the combined design has simple and natural impression of living creatures and it gives expression that stimulate the emotions of people. As I mentioned above, Arne Jacobsen’s chairs design is very nature friendly and emotional, because the design concept is based on the culture that emphasizes harmony and coexistence of nature and human. By using warm feeling fabric and wood, the design can give emotional and, beautiful and practical simplicity and also it shows peaceful feeling, yet brief, and the formative, the analog sensibility.
