이 연구는 신경숙의 장편소설 『어디선가 나를 찾는 전화벨이 울리고』原本 및 中譯本을 중심으로 原本에 나타난 외래어와 그 중국어 대역어의 대응양상을 살피고 나아가서 한국 외래어와 중국 外來詞를 비교 분석하여 그 차이를 밝히는 한편, 이런 차이가 나타나게 된 원인을 고찰하고자 한다.
먼저 한국 외래어의 개념과 유형을 검토해보고, 최근의 인기소설이 현대인들의 언어실태를 나타낼 수 있다는 것을 제시하였다. 외래어의 정의를 정확하게 내리고 외국어와 분명하게 구별하는 것은 일정한 기준도 없고 간단한 일이 아니다. 이 연구에서는 다른 언어의 어휘들을 받아들여 제 어휘체계 안에 수용하는 차용어를 외래어로 다루었다. 또 한국 외래어를 크게 중국어에서 온 외래어, 西歐語에서 온 외래어, 일본어에서 온 외래어로 나누었다.
다음은 소설 『어디선가 나를 찾는 전화벨이 울리고』에 나타난 외래어를 통계 분석하고 그 중국어 대역어와의 대응양상을 살펴보았다. 이 소설에 나타난 외래어는 총 915개이고, 그중 87개의 외래어가 중복 출현하였다. 출현한 외래어 중에서 어원이 영어인 외래어가 약 80% 이상의 큰 비중을 차지하였고 어원이 프랑스어인 외래어가 그 뒤를 이어 많이 나타났다. 그리고 분야별에서는 ‘인명/지명’ 분야와 ‘문화/예술’ 분야의 외래어가 가장 많이 출현하였다. 이 소설에 나타난 외래어와 그 중국어 대역어의 대응양상에는 원음대응, 번역대응, 원음&번역대응이 있다.
마지막으로 소설『어디선가 나를 찾는 전화벨이 울리고』를 바탕으로, 나아가서 한국의 『표준국어대사전』(국립국어원, 1999)에 수록된 외래어, 그리고 중국의 『漢語外來詞詞典』(劉正埮 外, 1984)과 『現代漢語詞典』(中國社會科學院, 2006)에 수록된 外來詞를 인용하여 분석근거로 삼아 한국 외래어와 중국 外來詞의 수용방식을 비교하여 그 차이점을 밝혔다. 그리고 의미 있는 차이에 대한 해석과 평가를 제시하였다.

Based on Shin Kyeong-sook's novel 『Somewhere the Bell Rings for Looking for Me』, this study analyses the corresponding aspects of loan words and their target words shown in the translated version. Then, through comparing the loan words both in Korean version and Chinese version, this study considers the reason for the differences.
Firstly, the present study examined the definition and the type of the loan word, and it suggested that recent popular novels could show the real state of the language use. However, it was not easy to give the clear definition for the loan word, and also not easy to evidently distinguish it from the foreign word. This study defined the loan word as the borrowing word which accepts and accomodates foreign countries' word into the domestic word system. It also divided the loan word into three groups: words from China, words from West-European and words from Japan.
Secondly, the author analyzed lown words shown in the novel Somewhere the Bell Rings for Looking for Me, and examined their corresponding aspects in Chinese target word. There are 915 loan words appeared in this novel, and of which 87 words are duplicated. Among those loan words, more than 80% is English oriented, which had the highest proportion, and the next is the French oriented loan words. From the aspect of field, 'name of the person & place' field and 'culture & art' field are most largely appeared. There are original sound corresponding, translation corresponding and original sound & translation corresponding among the corresponding relationships of the loan words and their Chinese target word shown in the novel.
Finally, based on the loan words from the novel 『Somewhere the Bell Rings for Looking for Me』 and various dictionaries of Chinese and Korean, this study compared the acceptance modes between Korean and Chinese, and discussed about their differences. It suggested the explanation and assessment for the differences.
