As we live in the global age, The subject of this thesis is how foreigners effect our language when their numbers are increasing. I select 4 investigating areas which are Garibong-dong, Yun-nam· Yun-hee dong, I-chon 1 dong, and Ban-po 4 dong, and i investigate what kinds of features from each area appear through the classification of system, localized comparison, and the comparison of all types of business. Also I have to figure how a borrowed word is used in wrong way, and I try to make appropriative use of signboard words with adjusting slangs and unsuitable words.
Large differences of a distribution of languages about signboard words from these 4 areas are showing up. For example, percentages of Garibong-dong are 11% of Native language, 69% of Chinese, 12.9% of Borrowed word, and 7.1% of Hybrid. that of Yun-nam· Yun-hee dong are 12% of Native language, 48.6% of Chinese, 28.2% of Borrowed word, and 11.2% of Hybrid. Percentages of I-chon 1 dong are 7.6% of Native language, 39.2% of Chinese, 41.6% of Borrowed word, and 11.6% of Hybrid. A result of percentages form Ban-po 4 dong is 6.4% of Native language, 27.2% of Chinese, 57.6% of Borrowed word, and 8.8% of Hybrid.
Garibong-dong and Yun-nam· Yun-hee dong use Chinese frequently because these areas use Chinese word in daily life, and these areas do not use borrowed word very often. Oppositely, I-chon 1 dong and Ban-po 4 dong, where uses Japanese and French, use many borrowed word but less Chinese and Native language. These trends of language are appeared because of a distribution of foreigners and the difference of economic position. Especially, a number of the use of native language is very low because of foreigners from investigating areas.
When we research distributions of business, Chinese is used by 80% of pharmacy store, 70.8% of hospital, and 60% of laundry. This result is coming out because these businesses should be professional, and their customers are middle-aged people. This is why they choose chinese for their signboard words.
Borrowed word is used by 81% of internet store, 80.7% of Cafe, and 72.9% of clothing store. Internet store uses borrowed word because characteristic of this business require borrowed word. Also, cafe and clothing store borrowed word because these businesses aim young people as their customers, and these store reflect tastes of young people.
Academy, karaoke, and supermarket use native language, but it is hard to find meaning of using native language because only few businesses use this language. For restaurant, beauty salon, and supermarket use hybrids because they reflect taste of people from every class.
At last, I figured what kind of language is used on signboard . Many signboards use borrowed words, and use of slangs and wrong grammars cause serious pollution of our language.
However, only few signboards use slangs. One major problem is wrong use of the borrowed word.
We often hear that we are living in flood of informations. Informations will be announced or broadcasted from mass media or book which is organized by language. However, if a half of these things are borrowed words, what we will do? we may live in the flood of borrowed words. Borrowed word destroys our racial characteristics because we take this language without any consciousness. Crucial problem is that it is hard to realize this problem.
We abuse borrowed words with unconsciousness or consciousness. Reason for using borrowed word is trying to show one's intelligence with flunkeyism. This vicious cycle repeats with lack of the autonomy because we do not take care of our language, and it repeats again.
We should use appropriate languages on signboard if we can figure out how influence of signboard effects on our language. It requires improvements of the government as well as efforts of business owners.
