Address form is the most common means to express the people's relationship and social venation. We can say that the language behavior which plays pioneering role in polite language also started from address forms. It, to use the address form properly, not only expresses the proprieties and friendliness to the counterparty but also can become the lubricator in the people's communication.
Korean is a complicated language in the systems of address forms and respectful titles. In this point, Chinese, belonging to the same cultural circle and thinking much of order of age and difference in social status is of no variance with Korea. In porticular, Korean introduced many Chinese characters and words from long time ago owning to the close economic and social relationship in past. Address forms is one of main part taking use of Chinese characters.
This will compare the currently used Korean and Chinese address forms and analyze the common and different Points, generally as follows:
1. To discuss the influence arised from traditionally social culture. Though it is the contrastive study on address form in modern Korean and Chinese, the roots originated from the same traditional social culture. Therefore, we have to elaborate its social and cultural background, and how and in what kind of forms it existed in past.
2. To compare the expressing forms and systems of Korean with Chinese. Firstly, this will study the confused notions and patterns existed both in modern Chinese and Korean. We will get the clear definition and induce the address form patterns after studying different scholars's viewpoints. Then the address forms will be classified into relatives' address forms, social address forms. The relatives' address forms can be divided into couple address forms, parents-and-children address forms, siblings-and-their relative spouses address forms, uncles- and-nephews address forms, parents in law-and-daughter in law address forms, parents in law-and-son in law address forms, brothers and sisters in law-and-wife address forms, brothers and sisters in law-and-husband address forms, husband-and-wife families address forms; social address forms are divided into fixed noun form, pronoun form, generally-called form, titles form, relatives substitution form, respectful-and-contemptful suffix form, interjection form. After the comparition, common and different points can be easily distinguished.
3. To contrastively study the address forms commonly used by Korean and Chinese in configuration and meaning. In this , we will choose some address forms often used and able to be understood in two countries. These will be classified into isomorphic synonym address form, homographic address form, heteromorphic address form. Homographic address forms have the following three kinds: it is address form in Chinese, but not in Korean; it is address form in Korean, but no in Chinese; it is address form in both two countries, but with different meanings. Heteromorphic address forms can be divided into the following two types: language elements are completely different; language elements are partly differently. We will try to study on the different condition.
This will point out the common and different points on the two countries expressing patterns of address forms and the respective Chinese characters' specialties in form and meaning through the contrastive study on address forms in modern Korean and Chinese. Hope it will help Korean and Choose people know how to correctly use the address forms.
