This Study verifies the influence of Chinese writing education on other subjects through math, which seems the most unrelated, and it claims that middle school Chinese writing should be mandatory based on the verification.
For this purpose, it examines the character, Chinese writing subject is an instrumental one for other subject learning, goals of the 6th curriculum, the proportion of schools selecting Chinese writing and others not, in Inchon city middle schools as the basic material and roughly evaluates the Chinese character and writing level of the first graders through questionnaire.
Based on the body, selecting 8 middle schools in Inchon city at random, I did survey with the subject of 341 students in 8 classes in the unit of 1 class in the first grade, Another survey was done to 50 math teachers working in 8 schools (except for teachers travelling on business or in absence). Partially, interview with teacher and student was also done.
The following are the 10 questions for the math leachers. First, is Chinese writing helpful to math learning when it is taken as preliminary learning or the two subjects go simultaneously? Second, what do you think of Korean. Chinese marking on the math text book? Third, do you think, as a math teacher, Chinese writing should be compulsory for other subject learning?
The 13 questions for the students are as follows. First, can you recognize homonym in math text book? Second, do you have a correct recognition on mathematical term in Chinese character? Third, would you choose to learn Chinese character? If so, what's the reason?
Based on the results, here are the main points of how we should improve our Chinese writing education. First, We should recognize that Chinese character and writing is one of our national character with Hangul, not just foreign language or Chinese literature, and at least in middle school education, it should be a mandatory course. Because it is necessary as an instrumental subject for other subjects, and students who didn't choose Chinese writing will have difficulty learning Chinese writing Ⅰ, Ⅱ in high school when all middle schools make selections for Chinese writing in the uniform base. Second, Hangul and Chinese characters should be marked on all textbooks properly at the same time. According to the study through math which seems most unrelated to Chinese writing, we should correctly recognize the meaning of math terms through Chinese character learning, and help students elevate their interest in learning all subjects by expanding their vocabulary written both in Hangul and Chinese.
The contents written above are the start th the ending of this thesis.
Hopefully, this discussion will be the basis of decreasing the number of Chinese illiterate by becoming the reference to Educational ministry, city and province education administrators including the press and broadcasting, and it will also be reflected on our education field.
