This study is conducted for the purpose of seeking an inclination and a problem in editing text-book of primary school upon revealing a reason of its amendment against which partially extracted from the books that have edited in mid period of exercising the secondary training course.
In order to conduct this study, it has applied with the method of examination and study by selecting a subject of the national language or primary school(96 volumes for the first and the second term of 1st to 6th grades of the school).
Stutus of transition, in editing the schoolbooks, that has been revealed through this study, shall be researched as follow, hereinafter :
(1) Exchange of unit :
1) Name of Unit, Changed : In relation to contents of the unit, it has been exchanged into more proper expression.
2) Entire exchange of unit contents : Two(2) units have been exchanged with the reason for activating a large scaled unit consisting of suitable units fitted for the purpose, and the other reason was caused by a development of deep-sea fishery.
3) Partial Amendment : Although the contents of unit have been partially amended, it has executed due to the conditions of expression in sentences and further, the economical growth owing to the First and the Second terms of 5-year plan of the Economical Development, and due to becoming alteration of touristing places and change of feelings that aright be though through tours.
2) Expression :
1) Standard Language and Spelling :
a. Standard language and spelling have mostly amended due to differing from the one established by the institute of the Korean Language.
b. Write-leaving-spaces : Large scope of amendment for spelling required for the 1st term of 1st grade, and provided possible convenience to lead the sense of visual to be written leaving-spaces.
c. Marks of sentence : Most of amendments on misuse and missing made. And next amendments made are, in a sequence of "period", "Quotation" and others.
2) Vocabulary :
a. Amendment made from originals to abbreviations mostly and other words of '갖겠다'("like to possess"), '갖게'("to possess"), and '내'("my"), and etc., have fixed exceptionally to the original words.
b. In the schoolbook that had been utilized since March 1, 1970, there were no Chinese letters at all(all extracted).
c. Amended only 3 for foreign language which have fixed into a proper way of Korean letters.
3) Grammar :
a. Honorific forms and Plain descriptions Written as a honorific forms for the 1st part and as a Plain descriptions for the latter, when these predicative words are duplicated.
b. Particle : Mistakes were found in subject, case and special particles, among these misused of most of case particle was also amended.
c. Tail : Amended many of "-자"(tail word usually exercises to the fellow person to whom not using any honorific words) for tail of consecutive form.
d. Tense : Expressed "present tense", instead of "past tense" should have expressed, or vise versa of tense were found.
e. Plural : Only Misuse of '들'("plural noun") was found to be amended.
f. Adverb : Amendment made for adverbs such as '또', '또한', '그러나' occurred through misutilization of conjunctive adverb.
4) Context :
On considerable numbers (82) of mistakes which were not agreed with a meaning of whole sentence, have amended.
5) Relation to style :
a. Text-books edited since 1967, were perfect to put date and signature on different line, against the books in which they were written on a same line before the said year.
b. Changes in printing letters has been modified from ㅊ, ㅈ to ㅊ, ㅈ since 2nd term of school in 1965(for 4th, 5th and 6th grades)
c. Inserted additionally the National Charter of Education into the books of the 4th, 5th and 6th grade of the school since 1969.
d. Changes in expression that it has affected by the Social conditions depending upon developments of traffic and sciences, growth of economic, erection on power plants, etc.,
e. There shall be mere adjustments required for misutilization and incompleteness expression of sentences other than particularized through the above.
As hereto, text-books it is understood that amendments found in editing the revealed that it was mostly depended upon social changes, and misuse and incompleteness in Expression of sentences.
It is, however a quite reasonable change of knowledges which can be paralleled with a shift in community, The amendments of tiose misutilization and incompletenesses found in expression of sentences have now been proved as existing problems inediting the schoolbooks.
If there exists sum mistakes in the text-books that compilated by the Government, it will be a way of obstruction to refine and develop the national language so much. It shall be adopted a doulble assurance especially on compilation of
text-books.
