The purposes of the study are two fold: (1) to analyze and Compare the formal differences of the grammatical number systems of English and Korean, and (2) to identify the problems that Cause difficulty fn the process of learning English noun Pluralization by Korean learners.
A1though the study does not propose a concrete way of remedying the difficulties the major reasons for the frequent mistakes made by the learners are assumed to be the complex system of English pluralization as compared to the simpler and lees developed system of Korean Counterpart.
In this light, the study concludes that teacher of English Should be aware of thee formal as well as underlying differences of pluralization mechanism of the two languages before presenting the teaching material to the learners of English by means of as much practice and repetition as possible in the face of the unfamiliar grammatical syetem.
