A study on the Acquisition of Korean Syllable-final Nasals by Chinese Learners This research discovered Chinese learners’ nasal sound errors at the end of the syllable by conducting the perception test and revealed the types of errors. And Analyzed of the cause of the error in L1 interference. Before conducting those experiments, Chapter 2 examined the syllable structures and the distribution of nasal sounds of the Korean and the Chinese languages in order to grasp the causes of Chinese learners’ errors in nasal sound at the end of the syllable. In Chapter 3, it's 20 Chinese students studying Korean in Korea be selected as experimental subjects conducted a speech experiment. The results of the experiments showed that in the nasal sound at the end of the word the errors in the nasal sound syllable decreased in descending order of /ㄴ/→/ㅇ/→/ㅁ/. In the commonly used syllable ending in /ㄴ/, the most pronounced errors are the syllable combined with vowel /ㅜ/ and /ㄴ/. And in the common syllable ending in /ㅇ/, the most pronounced errors are the syllable combined with vowel /ㅐ/ and /ㅇ/. And there were four types of errors: substitution, omission, addition and blurred pronunciation. In this type of error, the most frequent is substitution. In Chapter 4, the causes of errors at the end of the syllable are specifically analyzed by the theory mentioned earlier. First of all, the syllable structure differences between Korean and Chinese are important causes of pronunciation errors. Another reason is the different conditions on the phoneme combinations between two language. At last even though the pronounced error in the syllable ending in /ㅁ/ is not much almost in the same way errors occurs. This is because of the interference of Chinese character. In other words Chinese learners' wrong pronunciation habits read Korean word according to the pronunciation of Chinese character leading to the error. This has been found that there are types that Chinese Korean learners made many errors about phoneme due to the L1 interference. Therefrom, it is important to teach them focusing on syllables which are hard to pronounce rather than just focusing on phoneme. This study has its meaning in that it has shed light on the pronunciation by Chinese learners.
