The purpose of this study is to understand the concept of Korean serial verbs and analyze the Korean-English translation patterns of those verbs. For this study, a well known Korean novel, Our Twisted Hero(Lee, 1992) and its translation by Kevin O’Rourke were used and 233 sentences including the serial verbs were divided into two categories: Type 1, main verb / auxiliary verb structure; and Type 2, main verb / main verb structure. Type 1 showed largely 2 patterns of translation; ‘translating only one verb(omission of auxiliary verb)’was the most frequent pattern and the other pattern is ‘translation of auxiliary verb with main verbs.’ The second pattern of Type 1 was divided into 2 subgroups; ‘perfect aspect(have/p.p)’, and ‘verb/noun structure.’ And In Type 2, ‘translating only one verb’ pattern was also the most dominant, showing different reasons. And like Type 1, 2 other different patterns followed; ‘translating into verb/preposition or adverb’, and ‘translating into verb/noun structure.’ ,韩语论文题目,韩语论文 |
