A study on developing Syllabus for Business Korean Language : Focus on Chinese in Korean This study is about needs analysis on syllabus of Korean for business purposes. Cultural exchanges between Korea and China have become very active. And Chinese students are the biggest number in Korean education. Therefore, this study aims to develop the syllabus for Chinese salespeople of Korean cosmetic products and Korean employers who hired them. Chapter 1 is about the purpose, necessity and procedure of this study and the precedent study. Chapter 2 is about the theoretical background and it defines Korean for special purpose, Korean for business purpose and theoretical background of syllabus. Chapter 3 is about the needs analysis for syllabus design and it describes about need analysis for Chinese salespeople and Korean employers. It’s procedure, target, and conducting survey and data analysis for the need analysis will be explained. Chapter 4 is about needs analysis of both Chinese salespeople and Korean employers group in designing the syllabus. Chapter 5 is the designed syllabus for Korean for business purpose for Chinese salespeople and Korean employers. And chapter 6 organize research result and shows what is needed more and the direction of further study. According to these, first, we can know that both Chinese salespeople and Korean employers know that the needs of syllabus for Korean for business purpose for Chinese salespeople and Korean employers are great. Especially, the needs of study in listening and speaking expressions that are spoken during the business hours, are great. Second, both Chinese salespeople and Korean employers are willing to participate syllabus development of Korean for business purpose. And they want to perform in work with better Korean skills. For designing syllabus, Korean employers wish to have intensive program in study hours and period of study, however, Chinese salespeople, who needs to work while they are studying, wish to have short and compact program. Third, according to the result of needs analysis of contents designing of Korean for business purpose, both Chinese salespeople and Korean employers wish to study Korean expressions in active and cooperative sales situation. And they also wish to study daily expressions and cultural contents as well. So, the syllabus needs to be organized according to the needs of Both group with business and daily expressions and cultural contents. Fourth, there was differences in the answer of asking current Korean proficiency. Chinese salespeople evaluates their Korean proficiency higher than Korean employers evaluate them. Therefore, to be able to narrow this gap, improve the Chines salespeople’s Korean competency is needed. This study conducted need analysis on syllabus design for Korean for business purpose according to learner and their employers and thought the analyzed data, short program syllabus of Korean for salespeople was designed. We can see the significance of this study that this can be used as the basis for the syllabus design in Korean for business purpose and this started the discussion on necessity of syllabus and material(textbook) development for salespeople. However, people who involved this survey are only 10 Korean employer and 34 Chinese salespeople which requires more sample group. And in addition, we need to expand the sample group to Korean customers who visit the sales place. But, both group emphasized on the importance and necessity in proper expression education, this should be done in follow up study by analyzing conversation between customer and salespeople in sales place and according to the analysis, practical syllabus design should be made. Also, syllabus and material(textbook) development for salespeople should be discussed actively.
